X-ray inspection and metal detection are both used to identify contaminants in food
products, but they operate differently and serve distinct purposes:
Metal Detection uses electromagnetic fields to detect metallic contaminants (ferrous, non-ferrous,
and stainless steel). It’s highly effective for products without metal packaging and is commonly used in
dry,
non-conductive foods like snacks or baked goods.
X-ray Inspection uses low-energy rays to scan products and detect a wider range of foreign
materials — not
just metal, but also glass, bone, stone, and even rubber. It can inspect products in metalized packaging
and is ideal for complex or high-risk food items.
Key Differences:
Detection Range: X-ray detects more types of contaminants.
Packaging Compatibility: X-ray works with foil and metal packaging; metal detectors do not.
