Application Traffic Monitor (GbE Microburst Monitoring)

The Application Traffic Monitor function can measure microburst traffic with a resolution of 1 ms to assure the required network peak bandwidth for streaming, etc. This makes it perfect for network bandwidth design and construction as well as for performing network maintenance and management to assure there are no data dropouts. In addition to streaming, it is also ideal for guaranteeing bandwidth and network performance for voice and priority data right from the earliest stages of network and device bandwidth design.

MU120131A/132A IP QoS Measurement

The spread of broadband networks is leading to a new era of IP-based networks. Previous best-effort type networks are inadequate for provision of rich-content services and guaranteed network service quality (QoS) is already an important requirement. The MD1230B and MP1590B are general-purpose IP testers that can also be used for QoS verification and evaluation.

Can the Ethernet clock frequency of the MD1230A be adjusted?

This function is only available on 10 GbE interface modules. Clock variation is not available on the Gigabit Ethernet modules.

If the link breaks between the remote PC and the MD1230A, does testing continue or stop? Does the MD1230A unit retain the test results and test conditions?

If the link breaks between the remote PC and the MD1230A, testing stops and the reserved ports are released.

Can the MD1230A specify copy or dummy for a background channel? To what extent can dummy channels be edited?

The MD1230A only supports concatenation mapping (Packet over SONET) and this mapping doesn't have any dummy channel.

How can the MD1230A read TxStream data that has been saved as a text file?

Click on the port and the TxStream tab. Then click the Import button.

Can remote users at distant geographical locations control a MD1230A?

Users can access MD1230As remotely via any Ethernet/IP network from any distance provided the network bandwidth and latency is adequate to control the MD1230A.

In what combinations can the remote GPIB control interfaces be installed in the same unit?

The remote GPIB control options (-01/RS232, -02/GPIB, -03/Ethernet) can all be installed in one MD1230A at the same time. However, these cannot all be used simultaneously. The user must only use one of these three interfaces at a time.

How does remote control using GPIB commands interact with the front panel controls of the MD1230A?

GPIB commands operate the MD1230A front panel. So, when remote control is in effect using GPIB commands, the front-panel operations keys are locked. However, GPIB remote control can be forcibly released by pressing the Local button on the front of the tester.

What is the difference between the Ethernet GPIB control (option MD1230A-03) and the Ethernet interface that comes standard with the MD1230A?

The standard Ethernet interface is used by the MX123001A Remote Control software, which provides a GUI interface for remote users that is identical to the GUI interface on the MD1230A itself. The option MD1230A-03 provides for remote control using GPIB commands.

What are the electrical and mechanical interface specifications for the 10 Gigabit Ethernet XAUI and MDIO connections for the MD1230A?

The XAUI Extender is 51.3mm(W) x 156mm(L) x 31mm(H). The XAUI connector is made by Fujitsu Component Ltd., model FCN-268D008-G/0D . The MDIO connector is made by Honda Connectors, model HDRA-EA36LFDT-SL The XAUI cable is made by Fujitsu Component Ltd, model FCD-ZZ00001. The MDIO cable is made by Honda Connectors, model HDRA-AS-0062-L(50).

With the MD1230A, what PC operating systems does the MX123001A Remote Control software support?

The PC operating system should be Windows 98, Windows 2000, or Windows XP. Apple and Unix operating systems are not supported.

Can the same MX123001A Remote Control software be installed on different PCs so that multiple users can use the same MD1230A unit?

Customers must purchase a separate MX123001A Remote Control software for each PC. The same software cannot be copied for installation on multiple PCs. The number of software copies purchased depends on the number of users accessing the MD1230A simultaneously.

Is multi-path tracing (tracing of 64 paths on J0) possible with the MD1230A?

Multi-path tracing, including the tracing on J0, can be selected. Tracing of 16 paths (CRC ON) or 64 paths (CRC OFF) can be selected.

How many users can access one MD1230A unit via remote PCs?

Up to eight users can access and use the same MD1230A via eight different remote PCs. However, no two users can use the same ports. Each user will have control of the ports that are reserved by that user by right-clicking on a port and selecting Reservation. Once any port is reserved by a user, that port cannot be controlled by other users.

Is it possible for a remote user to observe the measurement results for ports that are reserved by other users?

Yes, but only the Captured data, Counter, Latency and Frame Arrival Variation measurement results can be observed. It is not possible to control or set ports reserved by other users.

With the MD1230A, how can I hide counter values that I don't want to see?

After clicking on the Counter tab, click on the Display Option button.
