Anritsu FAQs

Is it possible to measure the latency of real network traffic (not frames generated by the MD1230A)?
answer
Yes. Here is an example of measuring latency between PC-A and PC-B that are using TCP communications: Through Mode monitoring using the MD1230A is performed at two locations:(1) between PC-A and "Router X". (2) between PC-B and "Router Y". The Capture Trigger condition is set to the SYNC bit of the TCP protocol. The MD1230A Port Group function is used to start capture simultaneously between PC-A/"Router X" and between PC-B/"Router Y". After the capture buffer becomes full, display the captured frames between PC-A/"Router X" and between PC-B/"Router Y". Subtract the receive times of each frame in the captured results list to calculate the latency: (Router Y/PC-B receive time) - (PC-B/Router X receive time) = Latency.
