Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) Testing

Unlock the Future of Healthcare with IoMT

The Internet of Things (IoT) is being actively used in the healthcare and medical fields, where it is known as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT). IoMT is an important key in the development of digital health technologies, since connecting several medical devices to the Internet achieves collect, analyze, and manage medical data in real time. Therefore, IoMT is expected to improve the quality of medical care, better patient services, and the possibility of extending healthy life expectancy.

Challenge

Medical Device

Challenge 1: Ensuring Wireless Connectivity for Healthcare and Medical Devices

Wireless connectivity, using wireless LAN and Bluetooth® technologies, is essential for accurately collecting medical data with IoMT devices. Implementing stable wireless connectivity requires taking appropriate measures, such as the suppression of electromagnetic noise generated inside the device, as well as interference of noise coming from outside the device, from the device development stage.

Medical Facility Network Environment

Challenge 2: Problems in Wireless Communication Networks of Medical Facilities

Medical facilities often experience problems such as reduced wireless communication speed, and the disconnection at a specific place. These problems can be caused by:

  • Jamming or interference from radio waves originating from various wireless devices inside and outside the medical facility
  • Radio wave attenuation or blockage caused by the structure or obstacle unique to the medical facility
  • Improper placement of wireless LAN access points

Solving wireless communication problems requires evaluating and analyzing the radio wave environment inside and outside the medical facility. Also, wireless communication devices need to be installed appropriately to eliminate the causes of jamming and interference.

IoMT solution

Solution 1: Testing of Wireless Connectivity for Medical Devices

Evaluating all kinds of IoMT devices is important from wireless communication modules to end products, to achieve their required RF performance including the transmission power, error vector magnitude (EVM), and packet error rate (PER) in practical conditions. Through its test solutions for quantitatively testing the wireless connectivity of IoMT devices, Anritsu ensures high communication quality for IoMT devices, contributing to improving the medical care quality and patient care services.

Solution 2: Detecting Radio Wave Jamming/Interference and Identifying the Source in a Network Environment

Using a real-time spectrum analyzer is one method of evaluating radio wave environments inside and outside a medical facility and detecting radio wave jamming or interference. Anritsu's spectrum analyzer enables customers to conduct a wide range of tests, such as confirming the presence of jamming and interference waves, locating the sources of noise using a directional antenna, and displaying electric field strength on a map using application software. Based on test results, customers can address the issues appropriately, including reviewing the layout of medical devices and the wireless communication system.
