Luton, UK, Lowell, Massachusetts, USA – September 14, 2016 – Anritsu EMEA Ltd and MACOM Technology Solutions Inc. (“MACOM”), today announced they will be jointly demonstrating High Speed Optical Networking at ECOC 2016 in Dusseldorf, Germany, in MACOM’s Booth #645.
With the IP traffic through Data Centers increasing at an annual rate of 23%, the telecoms industry is under increased pressure to improve transmission speeds, while at the same time reducing the cost, size and power consumption of optical ports. In order to achieve this, new high-speed interfaces such as CEI-56G and 400GbE are being investigated as a means of speeding up processing and communications between servers and networks, making Semiconductors and ultimately Silicon Photonics (SiPh), an essential part of this evolution.
With the goal of combining signal integrity with the challenges of higher speeds, Pulse Amplitude Modulation (PAM) is being adopted as an alternative to increasing the symbol rates of the conventional NRZ technology, thereby increasing transfer capacity without raising symbol rates. Various options are under evaluation in terms of granularity for the NRZ signals to be modulated, with main adopted speeds of either 25Gbps or 50Gbps.
Anritsu’s MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer supports generation and analysis of wideband analogue transmission, including stress generation, for integrity evaluation of up to 64GBaud PAM4 signals. In this joint demonstration, Anritsu’s MP1800A SQA can operate at speeds up to 32GBaud PAM4 allowing MACOM to exhibit their latest technology.
MACOM’s 25GBaud Analog linear Clock and Data Recovery (CDR) silicon chip is the baseline IP for next generation retiming devices targeted for 200Gbps and 400Gbps optical modules. MACOM’s technology demonstration achieves industry leading low power and low latency, which enables the development of small form-factor QSFP and 400G MSA optical modules for both parallel single mode fiber (PSM) and wave division multiplexing (WDM) applications. MACOM anticipates that its complete chipset and laser solutions for PAM-4 technology will enable accelerated high bandwidth connectivity deployments for datacenter applications.
“MACOM is excited to be collaborating with Anritsu to demonstrate this high-speed solution for customers,” said Marek Tlalka, Director of Product Marketing at MACOM. “Anritsu’s Signal Quality Analyzer provides MACOM a test solution that enables us to accelerate our silicon IP’s time to market by demonstrating the high performance of our next generation PAM-4 CDR products.”
Anritsu’s MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer is a market leading Bit Error Rate Tester offering a comprehensive suite of testing capabilities to support complete Signal & Transmission Integrity Analysis. Anritsu MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer’s key features include superior signal waveform quality, extremely low intrinsic jitter and fast transition times, multichannel generation and analysis, integrated full Jitter Tolerance stress generation, 4Taps Pre-Emphasis, PAM4 and PAM8 Converters. Anritsu has also recently announced another evolution for this platform, as a worldwide unique solution for R&D on signal transmission, covering at the same time signal generation, analysis and jitter tolerance testing up to 64.2GBaud PAM4, together with fully automated testing of next generation PCIe, Thunderbolt and USB ports.
MACOM’s 25GB PAM-4 CDR demonstration will be on display at ECOC 2016, Booth #645, September 19th-21st in Dusseldorf, Germany. To make an appointment, contact your local MACOM sales representative. For more information on MACOM’s broad optical and photonic portfolio visit: www.macom.com.
