Can a spectrum analyzer be connected to a cable that has DC voltage?

Yes, just don't exceed the maximum voltage that is normally described on the spectrum analyzer port

I've recently upgraded the firmware on my S331D and now under the DTF, I see an option for Optical. What is that?

The S331D when upgraded to Version 5.23 firmware or later has the internal capability to make Optical Distance To Fault  measurements.  An external Optical Distance to Fault Module is also needed to make the Optical DTF measurement.  This part number is ODTF-1.

Does the Anritsu Site Master support P25 demod?

Presently the Site Master does not support P25 demod.

The MA2474D specifies a "rise time" of 4 us at 0 dBm room temperature but gives no definition. Can you define it?

Rise time is defined as, the time interval necessary for the power sensor to rise from 10% to 90% of the reading when the signal rises instantaneously from zero (no power) to 1 mW (0 dBm).

We have a requirement for 2 CW RF microwave signals to be applied 90 degrees out of phase with each other into either end of a device under test. How can this be achieved?

This can be achieved with a pair of MG369XB's with the low band option (either option 4 or 5) and the Phase Tracking Special, SM5815.  With this special the phase difference between the synthesizers can be set either from the front panel or programmed over GPIB. 

I am using the Tripp Lite USB to serial adapter. I have verified the adapter is installed properly and the adapter shows up on Com 4 on my PC under Ports (Com & LPT). The port setting is port 4 in HHST. I have all baud rates set correctly and I still get an error in serial communications after several seconds.

If you have a wireless device enabled on your PC or laptop this can interrupt the serial communication.  Go to Network connections and verify your Wireless Network connection type LAN or high speed internet is disabled.  Even it says disconnected you should disabled it.  This has been known to help in cases where everything is set up properly.  Wireless devices such as Palm Pilots can cause this also so disable all wireless devices that you use.

I am using a VISTA 64 bit operating system and Delorme USB to serial adapter and I cannot get HHST to work.

HHST is compatible with VISTA 32 bit operating systems but not with VISTA 64 bit OS.  Also per Delorme their USB to serial adapter is not compatible with VISTA 32 or 64.

How do I get my MS2721B to use a manual ethernet address after I enter one?

After you enter the ethernet address you want to use (i.e. 10.0.0.2) you must restart the unit on a live ethernet connection. You can use the crossover cable to connect to your computer's ethernet port as a live port, but only if you are assigning an address. If you use the DHCP (dynamic host control protocol), you must hook to a live ethernet connection that allows for DHCP requests.

Is it possible to recall traces once they have been deleted from the Site Master 251 series?

There is no way to retrieve the traces once you have deleted them. It's always a good practice to download the traces from the Site Master to a laptop before leaving the site.

There is a lot of concern about loss and reflections in the cable run to the antenna. Why don't the radio MFGs just make transmitters with more power?

The FCC regulates how much output power of any given transmitter. Since this is a fixed quantity, the system designers are forced to squeeze out every bit of performance out of the entire system.

I left my Site Master on a bench and went to lunch. It's not sweeping anymore. What's wrong? How do I get it to sweep again?

The Site Master goes into a power saving mode after 10 minutes of inactivity. Just press the RUN/HOLD button and the unit will begin sweeping again.

Can you use a one load if you calibrate with a different load?

You may calibrate the Site Master with one precision load and make measurements with another precision load. Type "N" loads are specified to be better than 42 dB return loss, and 7/16 Din loads are specified to 45 dB. You can never make a measurement better than the quality of the calibration components being used. This is true for ALL test equipment.

What will be the benefit for me to install the Site Master Code Loader?

The Code Loader program allows you to keep the installed firmware version of your Site Master current to the current version being shipped. In other words if you had for example, 6 units and they all had different versions, as seen when you turn the box on, then you could make them all current with the latest version.

What is the little double arrow 'C' symbol on my display mean?

This is the Site Master temperature icon. It indicates that the internal temperature of your unit has changed enough to make the calibration invalid. When it appears, you should re-calibrate your instrument. You can check the temperature range of your most recent cal by pressing .sys.status.

Is the v6.41 software backward compatible with the v6.4?

Files saved with an older version of software tools such as 6.40 can be read and manipulated with version 6.41. Files which were saved with the new 6.41 version can not be read and manipulated with an older version such as 6.40.

Marker and trace data values are truncated to the right of the decimal (comma) for both Frequency and Amplitude. This occurs in German and French operating system Regional Settings.

Marker and trace data are displayed properly in German and French Regional Settings when "German(Swiss)" and "French(Swiss)" regional selections are made. To select the operational German or French Regional Settings, do the following : Go to Start up Menu - Settings - Control Panel - Regional Settings Select "German(Swiss)" Regional Settings for German users or "French(Swiss)" Regional Settings for French users.

Why is my unit giving bad readings?

There might be a calibration problem. Have you performed an open/short/load calibration? Check the calibration kit for mechanical damage.

Why is my Site Master display blank on power-up?

Site Master defaults to having a minimum contrast which often appears blank. Adjust the contrast with the up/down arrow keys until the display appears.
