Anritsu 2-port VNA System Part of MWC 2023 Demonstration Highlighting Performance of 5G RIS Technology
Unique Design of ME7868A VNA System to Show Proof-of-Performance of Greenerwave Solution that Overcomes Propagation Losses of 5G/6G mmWave Signals
Barcelona – February 28, 2023 – Anritsu Corporation will be part of a live demonstration of an active Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface (RIS) in the Greenerwave stand (Hall 5 Stand 5B19) during Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2023 in Barcelona, February 27 – March 2. The demonstration will show proof-of-performance of Greenerwave’s RIS for 5G and beyond use cases using Anritsu’s ShockLine™ ME7868A two-port vector network analyzer (VNA) system.
RIS is a potential solution to overcome challenges related to propagation losses of millimeter-wave (mmWave) signals for 5G and 6G. Once fabricated, RIS needs to be tested for performance and verification to determine how precisely incoming signals are reflected at the proper angles. Testing requires a source and receiver with phase synchronization. The demonstration highlights how the ME7868A 43.5 GHz 2-port, modular, distributed VNA system with proprietary PhaseLync™ synchronization technology conducts the necessary testing and verifies the performance of RIS.
In the demonstration, the 5G RIS, which is attached to a wall panel, is 4 meters from one MS46131A 1-port VNA and 3 meters from another MS46131A, which comprise the ME7868A. The active RIS is configured so it can deflect the signals being received from one direction to another direction at a fixed angle. The ME7868A will conduct vector corrected 2-port S-parameter measurements. If link path is disturbed, the VNA measurements will be distorted and the main antenna beam will be lost. Once the obstruction is removed, the RF link is reestablished, confirming the performance of the RIS.
