Serving as control software for the Radio Communication Test Station MT8000A, SmartStudio NR dramatically simplifies testing and reduces cost-of-test when verifying 5G commercial devices being developed for emerging applications.
With a built-in, state-machine-based GUI, SmartStudio NR control software simulates a 5G/LTE base station and core network. It uses the MT8000A 5G evaluation platform as a call box to simulate environments such as sub-6 GHz (FR1) RF cable connections and Over The Air (OTA) connections, mmWave (FR2) OTA connections in combination with unique compact shield box design, as well as changing cell parameters, DL/UL configuration, and protocol monitoring and logging (PHY/MAC/RLC/PDCP/L3).
SmartStudio NR emulates the network conditions and communication between a 5G network and mobile terminal to implement efficient functional, application, and software regression tests. Among the tests supported by SmartStudio NR are network connectivity and carrier aggregation; power consumption and temperature; IP throughput; messaging/IMS; and applications using an Internet-connected test server and real application server.
SmartStudio NR is specifically designed to mitigate the added complexities associated with 5G device design and the integration of 5G technology into markets beyond traditional cellular. Its intuitive user interface efficiently replicates a real-world network covering 4G/5G radio technologies. Its ease-of-use allows tests to be made by users not experienced in the complex scripting and communication protocols between the base station and mobile terminal.
By using the SmartStudio Manager external control tool, users can create and save operations of 5G device and SmartStudio NR as test cases to build automated test environments. This further simplifies device verification. IMS test scripts can also be created using an available SmartStudio NR interface.
Radio Communication Test Station MT8000A
The Radio Communication Test Station MT8000A is an all-in-one test platform for RF, protocol, and beam tests, as well as for beam-forming evaluations. Moreover, it covers the key frequency bands used by the first 5G services, such as the sub-6 GHz band (FR1) frequencies of 600 MHz, 2.5 GHz, 3.5 GHz, and 4.5 GHz, and the mmWave band (FR2) frequencies of 28 GHz, 39 GHz, and higher.
