Anritsu Introduces BERTWave that Reduces Test Costs, Shortens Measurement Times and Increases Yield of High-speed Optical Devices and Modules

All-in-one Solution Simultaneously Conducts BER Measurements and Eye Pattern Analysis to Evaluate PHY Layer Performance of 100 Gbit/s System Elements

Richardson, TX – February 22, 2017 – Anritsu Company introduces the BERTWave MP2110A, an all-in-one instrument that conducts simultaneous BER measurements and eye pattern analysis to more efficiently evaluate multi-channel optical modules and optical devices used in optical communications systems, including 100GbE, InfiniBand EDR, and 32G Fibre Channel. The integrated platform of the MP2110A lowers test instrument capital costs, shortens measurement times, and improves yields to dramatically improve the production of 100 Gbit/s optical transceiver modules, as well as associated devices and cables.

The BERTWave MP2110A features a built-in BERT that can be configured with up to 4-channels at up to 28.2 Gbit/s, and up to a 2-channel sampling oscilloscope. This unique single-instrument design allows the BERTWave MP2110A to conduct simultaneous TRx BER measurements of multi-channel optical modules used by 100GbE standards, such as QSFP28, and other standards, such as InfiniBand EDR and 32G Fibre Channel, as well as simultaneous 2-channel eye pattern analyses. The result is a reduction in measurement times by as much as 65% compared to previous measurement systems.

To shorten tact times during optical module and optical device manufacturing, maximum sampling speed has been increased to 250 ksamples/s. The result is eye pattern analysis times for eye mask tests are as much as 75% faster than previous BERTWave solutions. With a minimum sensitivity of –15 dBm (typ., SMF), the sampling oscilloscope optical interface supports accurate eye pattern analysis of signals that have been attenuated by switches.

The built-in pulse pattern generator (PPG) has excellent jitter performance of only 600 fs rms (typ.) while the built-in error detector (ED) has sensitivity of 25 mV (typ.) to support measurements with better performance than the device under test (DUT) for more accurate results. A PC is also integrated into the BERTWave MP2110A mainframe for highly stable operation.
