New Application Tools Integrate with Industry-leading Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A BERT to Create 100G-EPON Test Solution to Address 25 Gbit/s PON Technology

Richardson, TX – January 4, 2017 – Anritsu Company introduces application software for its Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A BERT that creates a 100G-Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) test solution that addresses the specific requirements of 25-Gbit/s Passive Optical Network (PON) technology used in high-speed optical networks. With the software installed, the MP1800A supports Bit Error Rate (BER) measurements of Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and Optical Network Unit (ONU) in accordance with the latest 100G-EPON standards.

The MP1800A BERT provides significant advantages for engineers developing next-generation high-speed optical components and systems. With the new software, the MP1800A supports 25-Gbit/s multichannel packet BER measurements and upstream burst tests to measure PON burst signals in 1-bit time units to achieve high accuracy. The multichannel design also allows the BERT to support as many as four ONUs simultaneously for greater efficiency. Combining high performance and flexibility, the MP1800A allows for faster time-to-market of products designed for high-transmission speed 25-Gbit/s PON systems.

The MP1800A mainframe is capable of measuring BER over a wide range of interfaces up to multichannel 32 Gbit/s. Featuring advanced multichannel synchronization and skew adjustment functions, the MP1800A BERT is ideally suited to conduct OLT and ONU tests of 100G-EPON devices and systems that require high-accuracy timing settings.

High-reproducibility BER measurements are achieved using the MP1800A BERT due to its ability to generate best-in-class high-quality output waveforms and high input sensitivity of 10 mV (typical). In addition to setting test-signal pattern and length timing, the application software provides an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) for the MP1800A that allows users to easily generate 2-channel test-signal burst patterns and set skew for more detailed analysis.

The Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A BERT meets a variety of high-speed signal integrity applications. Its built-in Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) supports high-quality output and high-amplitude signals. A built-in Error Detector (ED) has high input sensitivity and internal clock recovery to support signal analysis. Various jitter types, including SJ/RJ/BUJ, can be generated by the jitter modulation source, which supports jitter tolerance tests. In addition to generating IEEE and ITU-T burst and auxiliary signals for evaluating E-PON, G-PON, and 10GE-PON optical modules, the BERT’s automated generation of burst data and auxiliary signal output timings shortens evaluation times and improves evaluation quality.
