Can the MS272xB spectrum analyzers do a G/T measurement? We want to determine the ratio between a CW pilot carrier from the satellite and the noise coming from deep space.
To do this measurement first measure the satellite carrier power. Using a marker, capture the peak of the CW signal to get that power level. Then turn the receiving dish a few degrees so it is aimed at deep space and measure the background noise level. We suggest using a fixed reference marker set at the peak of the CW carrier and a delta marker at the same frequency set to be a noise marker. By doing this, the delta marker value is in dB/Hz relative to the CW signal and once the receiving antenna is turned to deep space the answer can be read directly from the delta marker value.
