Anritsu Corporation announces the release of three new software packages to expand the measurement standards supported by the company’s popular Universal Wireless Test Set MT8870A. The new packages are the WLAN 802.11ax Tx Measurement MX887033A and WLAN 802.11ax Waveform Files MV887033A for evaluating IEEE 802.11ax devices, and the Full Automatic Measurement Program.
Installing these packages in the MT8870A offers the world’s first turnkey system for production-line testing of IEEE 802.11ax standard-compliant devices with the world’s fastest fully automated testing of RF TRx characteristics for up to 16 devices simultaneously. The Full Automatic Measurement Program eliminates the need to develop customer control programs, helping increase productivity and cut costs.
Anritsu’s MT8870A already supports the WLAN IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/p measurement standards and adding this new support for IEEE 802.11ax will play a key role in providing an efficient measurement solution for all WLAN standards.
IEEE 802.11ax is a next-generation WLAN standard developed to improve average data throughput in locations with high client device densities, such as offices, sports stadiums, rail stations, etc.). Currently, it is under review by the IEEE 802.11ax TaskGroup (TG), targeting release as an international standard in 2019.
Since the main target of the IEEE 801.11ax standard is mobile terminals, it is expected to see widespread adoption by smartphones, tablets, AR/VR equipment, automobiles, etc. However, since these products also support cellular standards other than WLAN, effective testing of both WLAN and cellular functions is a key issue for equipment vendors.
Anritsu already offers its Universal Wireless Test Set MT8870A as an automatic test solution for cellular device production lines, and this world-first addition of the 11ax fully automated test functions for up to 16 devices without customers needing to develop control programs will help grow new share in this market.
The Universal Test Set MT8870A is targeted at production-line measurements of various wireless equipment and modules. Four high-performance test units are installed in the main frame and each of these four units supports fully independent parallel simultaneous measurement of up to four wireless devices.
Installing the three new software packages (WLAN 802.11ax Tx Measurement MX887033A, WLAN 802.11ax Waveform Files MV887033A, and Full Automatic Measurement Program) enables fast and fully automatic testing in accordance with the IEEE 802.11ax test specifications (Tx Power, Frequency, Modulation Accuracy, Rx Sensitivity, etc.).

- Lower Control Program Development Costs
IEEE 802.11ax evaluations usually require costly development of a control program for controlling the device under test (DUT) using the measuring instrument (RF signal output and frequency switching). Using the released Fully Automatic Measurement Program to execute this control without requiring a customer-developed control program helps cut costs.
- High-Reliability Evaluations
The WLAN 802.11ax measurement software has been developed in cooperation with Anritsu customers with emphasis on interconnectivity tests with existing chipsets to assure excellent reliability.
- Higher Efficiency
The MT8870A already supports all 2G/3G/LTE/LTE-Advanced/NB-IoT/Category M, WLAN/Bluetooth, GPS, and FM evaluation tests; adding these new software packages not only extends the MT8870A test range to IEEE 801.11ax but also helps cut costs by supporting simultaneous multi-standard tests for multiple systems.
