Inline Power Sensor

MA2410xA
Measure a wide variety of signals from CW to LMR, Tetra, APCO/ P25, cellular, or tactical military radar and avionics
Overview

The Anritsu MA2410xA Inline Peak Power Sensors are designed to take accurate average power measurements over 2mW to 150 W, from 25 MHz to 4 GHz. The sensors employ a "dual path" architecture that enables True-RMS measurements over the entire frequency and dynamic range allowing users to measure CW, multi-tone and digitally modulated signals such as GSM/EDGE, CDMA/EV-DO, WCDMA/HSDPA, WiMAX, and TD-SCDMA. The forward direction path also includes a 4 MHz bandwidth channel that has peak and comparator/integrator circuits that add measurement functions such as PEP power, crest factor, CCDF, and burst average power. Another detection circuit on the reverse direction adds reverse power measurement capabilities including reverse power, reflection coefficient, return-loss, and SWR. The presence of a micro-controller along with signal conditioning circuitry, ADC, and power supply in the sensor makes it a complete miniature power meter.

Anritsu has two variants of Inline Sensors

  • MA24103A - with frequency range from 25 MHz to 1 GHz
  • MA24105A - with frequency range from 350 MHz to 4 GHz

Operation with PC

The power sensor can be used with a PC running Microsoft Windows® (including Windows 11) via USB. It comes with PowerXpert™ application data display, analysis, and sensor control. The application has abundant features like data logging, power versus time graph, single sensor display, Real time settings update, and offset table that enable quick and accurate measurements.

Operation with Anritsu Handheld Instruments

Handheld instruments having the high accuracy power meter software Option 19 can operate both Inline Peak Power Sensors. The power sensor easily connects to these instruments via a USB A/Micro-B cable. The MA2410xA sensors are currently compatible with most Anritsu handheld instruments. Refer to your instrument technical data sheet or contact your sales representative to ensure compatibility.

APPLICATIONS
Avionics
  • Antennas and Airport Beacons, situated atop towers and buildings, antennas and airport beacons serve as guiding lights for pilots, with systems like the Instrument Landing System (ILS) operating within the frequency range of 108.10 to 111.95 MHz, providing precision guidance during adverse weather conditions.
  • Broad spectrum of equipment operating within frequencies ranging from 75 MHz to 336 MHz such as Localizers, Glide Paths, Surveillance Radars, and Markers, each playing a unique role in navigation, surveillance, and communication within the airport environment.
  • In Civil aviation, communication systems operate within to 137 MHz, facilitating seamless interaction between air traffic controllers and pilots.
  • Military aviation relies on the UHF frequency band, spanning from 225 to 400 MHz, to meet its operational needs.
Railroad Braking Systems
  • Real-time Monitoring and Feedback: Railroad braking systems require precise control to ensure trains stop safely and efficiently. Anritsu’s Inline Peak Power Sensors can be integrated into the braking system to provide real-time monitoring of power levels. By continuously measuring the peak power, these sensors offer instant feedback on the braking system’s performance, allowing for immediate adjustments if any anomalies are detected.
  • Enhanced Safety: Safety is the foremost concern in railroad operations. The MA24103A and MA24105A sensors enhance safety by ensuring that the braking system operates within the optimal power range. By preventing power surges or drops that could lead to brake failure, these sensors play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the braking mechanism, thereby reducing the risk of accidents.
  • Predictive Maintenance: Integrating Anritsu’s power sensors into the braking system allows for predictive maintenance. The sensors can detect slight deviations from the norm, indicating potential wear and tear or impending failure of components. This early warning system enables maintenance teams to address issues before they escalate, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.
  • Performance Optimization: The efficiency of braking systems directly impacts fuel consumption and overall train performance. Anritsu’s sensors help in fine-tuning the braking system by providing detailed power measurements.
  • Compliance with Regulations: Railroad systems are subject to stringent safety and performance regulations. The accurate and reliable data provided by the MA24103A and MA24105A sensors can help railroad operators meet these regulatory requirements. Detailed records of braking performance can be maintained, demonstrating compliance, and aiding in the certification processes.
Broadcast Networks and LMR Systems
  • Transmitter Power Monitoring: This sensor can continuously monitor the power output of base station transmitters, ensuring that they operate within specified power levels. This monitoring helps maintain signal quality and network reliability.
  • Antenna Reflection Measurement: This information helps in optimizing antenna performance and minimizing signal loss due to reflections, ensuring efficient signal propagation.
R&D and Manufacturing
  • Testing high power devices such as Power Amplifiers
  • General purpose measurement of through and reflected power
