RoHS Compliance for Custom Parts

RoHS for suppliers of Anritsu Parts or Assemblies built to Specification.

In order for Anritsu Company to meet its environmental responsibilities and global customers’ demands, its products must comply with RoHS requirements.

When an Anritsu drawing or specification is marked with the statement: “This part of the assembly must be RoHS compliant, for information see https://www.anritsu.com/en-US/about-anritsu/sustainability/environment/rohs-compliance", it is the responsibility of the Supplier to ensure the part or assembly meets the RoHS requirements. Sufficient proof of compliance must be provided upon request.

What is RoHS?

RoHS is the acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. It originated in the European Union and restricts the use of specific hazardous materials normally found in electrical and electronic types of equipment. The current RoHS Directive as amended by 2015/863/EU is 2011/65/EU.

What is required?

Products destined to the EU cannot have more than the allowable MCV (maximum concentration values) of the ten restricted hazardous substances listed below.

What are Maximum Concentration Values (MCVs)?

The RoHS law specifies a maximum allowable level of a homogeneous material, weight by weight, for the following ten restricted materials:

Lead (Pb): 1000 ppm (RoHS 2)
Mercury (Hg): 1000 ppm (RoHS 2)
Cadmium (Cd): 100 ppm (RoHS 2)
Hexavalent Chromium (CrVI): 1000 ppm (RoHS 2)
Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB): 1000 ppm (RoHS 2)
Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE): 1000 ppm (RoHS 2)
Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP): 1000 ppm (RoHS 3)
Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP): 1000 ppm (RoHS 3)
Dibutyl phthalate (DBP): 1000 ppm (RoHS 3)
Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP): 1000 ppm (RoHS 3)

What does “Homogeneous” mean?

Homogeneous material refers to the materials of uniform composition throughout. This means a unit that cannot be mechanically disjointed (separated by mechanical actions such as unscrewing, cutting, crushing, grinding and abrasive processes) in single materials”.

Which parts are affected?

In all cases where Anritsu’s drawing or specification states that a part or assembly must be RoHS compliant, Anritsu requires that the Supplier create an auditable trail of all components that make up the part or assembly.
