Anritsu Supports BMW Group in Verifying Hybrid eCall Compliance with Latest European Standards EN 18052:2025

17/07/2026

17 July 2026 - ANRITSU CORPORATION announced its support of BMW Group in achieving vehicle type approvals compliant with the latest European Hybrid eCall standards, ensuring conformity with EN 18052:2025 requirements for emergency call services operating across both circuit-switched (2G/3G) and packet-switched (4G/LTE IMS) mobile networks.

Hybrid eCall is designed to provide compatibility with legacy circuit-switched networks while supporting Next Generation eCall over IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) in modern packet-switched 4G/LTE network environments. As European requirements evolve towards Next Generation eCall, validation across both network domains has become a critical element in demonstrating compliance for new vehicle type approvals.

Starting in 2026, BMW Group intends to support Hybrid eCall functionality across subsequent BMW vehicle models such as Neue Klasse platform e.g., the iX3, helping to ensure that future model lines can meet evolving European eCall requirements as the industry transitions toward Next Generation eCall.

Using Anritsu’s comprehensive end-to-end eCall test solution, BMW Group successfully verified the performance of its in-vehicle emergency call system under Hybrid eCall operating conditions. The testing demonstrated BMW vehicles’ conformance with the latest European requirements governing end-to-end eCall service delivery across coexisting circuit-switched and packet-switched network environments.

“Hybrid eCall introduces complex interoperability requirements across multiple generations of mobile network technologies,” said Shinji Hoshino, General Manager of the IoT Test Solutions Division at Anritsu. “By using Anritsu’s end-to-end eCall test solution, BMW Group was able to validate its emergency call functionality against the latest European standards, supporting successful vehicle type approval activities as the industry transitions to Next Generation eCall.”

At the 38th 5GAA F2F Meeting Week, held in Munich, Germany, from 14 to 16 July 2026, BMW Group and Anritsu jointly demonstrated Hybrid eCall compliance testing.
