Joint Anritsu and Teledyne LeCroy Development of PCI Express Gen4 Test System


MP1900A BERT with LabMaster 10Zi-A Oscilloscope Performs Automated PCIe Gen4 Transmitter, Receiver and Link Equalization Tests with Support Up To 32 Gbit/s

October 9, 2017 – Anritsu Corporation (President Hirokazu Hashimoto) and Teledyne LeCroy are announcing a joint venture to offer automated test solutions for PCI Express 4.0 (PCIe Gen4). Combining the Anritsu Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A BERT with the Teledyne LeCroy Digital Oscilloscope LabMaster 10Zi-A along with the QPHY-PCIe-Tx-Rx software to configure an all-in-one automated system for testing PCIe Gen4 electrical characteristics as well as for Physical layer protocol analysis, and TRx and Link/Equalization tests will play a key role in improving the development efficiency of high-speed ICs, devices and networks.
Moreover, this test system has easy expandability, supporting next-generation PCI Express Gen5 (PCIe Gen5) and helping cut equipment capital expenditure costs.
Anritsu is participating as a sponsor in the PCI-SIG*1 Developers Conference Asia-Pacific Tour 2017 being held in Tokyo on October 12, 2017 and in Taiwan on October 16 and 17, 2017, where the company will demonstrate its PCI Express 4.0 Receiver Test Solution.

Data centers are transitioning 200G/400G Ethernet*2 to high-speed PCIe Gen4 (16 Gbit/s) bus interfaces to cope with the huge increases in data traffic resulting from the widespread use of smartphones and other mobile terminals. In addition, tests of faster PCI Express Gen5 (32 Gbit/s) equipment are starting, making easy expandability, shorter test times to assure signal integrity, and lower capital costs very important items for operators.

The joint Anritsu/Teledyne LeCroy solution offers easy expandability to support 32 Gbit/s interfaces, helping facilitate fast deployment of end-to-end solutions optimized for PCIe Gen5 specifications with automated Transmitter Test, Receiver Jitter Tolerance Test, and Tx/Rx Link Equalization Test measurements required by the Compliance Test*3.

[Features of Signal Quality Analyzer-R MP1900A]
The Anritsu Signal Analyzer-R MP1900A is a high-speed BERT supporting bit rates up to 32 Gbit/s with precision Link Training/Equalizer and Link Training Status State Machine (LTSSM*4) analysis functions. These functions implement the Link Negotiation required for the Pulse Pattern Generator with 10Tap Emphasis, High-Sensitivity Error Detector with Clock Recovery, 12 dB Continuous Time Linear Equalizer (CTLE), and PCI Express Rx tests. With world-beating intrinsic jitter of 115 fs rms and high-quality waveforms, the MP1900A not only supports high-reliability Jitter and Noise Tolerance tests, but also has PAM*5 signal generation and Rx functions required by Ethernet. Since just one MP1900A handles both 200G/400G Ethernet and PCI Express evaluations, it nearly halves capital equipment costs compared to previous test solutions.

[Features of Digital Oscilloscope LabMaster 10-25Zi-A]
The Teledyne LeCroy Digital Oscilliscope LabMaster10-25Zi-A has the 25-GHz bandwidth required for PCIe Gen4 TRx calibration tests, and can be upgraded to support 32 Gbit/s for the next serial standard and even faster standards. The LabMaster 10-25Zi-A and the soon-to-be-announced QPHY-PCIe4-Tx-Rx software option link automatically with the Anritsu MP1900A to run the required PCIe Gen4 TRx and Link Negotiation tests, playing a role in helping cut design test times. Debugging of PCI Express interfaces uses the PCI Express decode function displaying Eye Pattern analysis, Jitter analysis, and protocol information as tables on the waveform for intuitive and easy understandability.
