IMS Script Basic Option MX847570A-060
Anritsu Corporation (President Hirokazu Hashimoto) has strengthened the functions of its SmartStudio MX847570A with easy-to-use GUI*1 for the company’s popular Signalling Tester MD8475A by announcing the August 31 release of the IMS Script Basic option MX847570A-060 for QA evaluation of mobile terminals, including smartphones, along with the GBA Authentication MX847570A-084 and IMS Early Media MX847570A-085 options for pre-evaluation of operator services.
The all-in-one MD8475A operates as a base station simulator using hardware and measurement software installed in the main frame to evaluate multi-standard mobile terminals supporting communications systems, such as LTE, W-CDMA, etc.
The MX847570A software provides the MD8475A with an easy-to-use GUI supporting easy test parameter settings and simple test execution without requiring specialist knowledge of mobile protocols, etc.
Currently, the mobile world is starting to deploy VoLTE*2 services offering high-quality voice calls, leading to increasing demand for instruments supporting VoLTE tests. However, there are a huge number of VoLTE test cases according to each operator’s specific needs, requiring preparation of many test cases for various operators. Installing the newly announced MX847570A-060, MX847570A-084, and MX847570A-085 in the MD8475A supports operator-specific VoLTE tests to improve the quality of mobiles using IMS*3 and GBA*4.
With the release of these new software test solutions, Anritsu is looking to expand its role in growing mobile broadband services.
The spread of mobile LTE services is driving roll-out of new LTE-specific services such as VoLTE and operators are deploying more unique services and functions to help lure new customers. This trend is increasing the testing burden during development of new mobiles. Voice calling is a key basic function of mobile phones and demands rigorous testing and evaluation.
Anritsu’s popular Signalling Tester MD8475A is a base station simulator supporting both legacy and newer technologies such as LTE and is used worldwide by mobile operators and terminal makers.
Installing the newly released IMS Script Basic MX847570A-060, GBA Authentication MX847570A-084, and IMS Early Media MX847570A-085 software options in the MD8475A simulates different test environments for operators worldwide to support mobile terminal evaluations.
- Efficient Measurement
The MX847570A-060 can create any IMS sequence used by each operator to help discover and fix pre-release bugs. Moreover, by using the MX847570A-084 and MX847570A-085 in the pre-release laboratory test phase, operators can cut the number of evaluation regressions, the development time, and mobile costs.
- Evaluation of both LTE and W-CDMA/GSM mobile terminals
To increase the coverage area of LTE terminals, they can also be used in other base station areas, such as TD-SCDMA, W-CDMA and GSM. With its full lineup of hardware and measurement software options, the all-in-one MD8475A also supports tests of multi-mode LTE terminals.
Signalling Tester MD8475A
The MD8475A is composed of a main frame and hardware and measurement software options supporting the various communications technologies; it is an all-in-one base station simulator for testing multi-mode mobile terminals. It can be used to configure a customized test environment matching the application for the best cost performance. Setting of communications and operation parameters is simplified by the easy-to-use GUI. The MD8475A also supports Category-4*6 compliant Throughput*7 tests (150 Mbps*8 down (from base station to terminal) and 50 Mbps up (from terminal to base station)).

Target Markets and Applications
- Target Markets: Smartphone/mobile terminal makers, chipset makers, operators
- Target Applications: Evaluation of LTE smartphones, terminals, and chipsets, operator acceptance inspection tests.
*1 GUI: Graphical User Interface
This interface displays user information graphically based on use of a pointing device, such as a mouse, to perform basic operations.
*2 VoLTE: Voice over LTE
This voice service uses LTE services provided by operators. It offers higher quality voice calls than previous analog calls by securing sufficient bandwidth and short delay time to assure good real-timeness. It also supports other functions, such as answerphone features, provided by previous legacy call services.
*3 IMS: Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem
This technology offers multimedia services by integrating public phone services using either circuit switching or packet switching with the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) using IP technology and internet telephony.
*4 GBA: Generic Bootstrapping Architecture
This technology defined by the 3GPP standard extends basic operator services. Key authentication is performed at the operator database using the mobile SIM data to perform authentication without dependence on the access network.
*5 Sequence Program
This program written in C defines the operation and communication conditions at layer 3 of the base station (data transfer processing).
*6 Category 4
This is the mobile performance category defined by 3GPP; the maximum download throughput is 150 Mbps and the maximum upload throughput is 50 Mbps.
*8 Mbps: Megabits per second
This is the unit of communications speed. 1 Mbps means 1 million bits of data are transferred in 1 second.
This is an index of the amount of data transferred per unit time. In the mobile communications field, it indicates the actual data transfer speed between the base station and the mobile terminal.
