Anritsu Selected for the First Time in the Highest Rated "A List" for Climate Change in CDP 2024

14/02/2025

ANRITSU CORPORATION (President Hirokazu Hamada) has been selected for the first time as an "A List" company, the highest rating, in the 2024 climate change survey conducted by the international non-profit organization CDP, which conducts environmental surveys and information disclosure.

The “A-List” is awarded to companies that have been recognized for their outstanding track record in climate change countermeasures and the transparency of their information disclosure, and this selection indicates that Anritsu's sustainable management efforts have been recognized internationally.

Anritsu has set a target of reducing Scope 1 and 2[※1] greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42% by 2030 compared to FY2021 with the aim of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. For Scope 3 (Categories 1 and 11)[※2], the target is to reduce emissions by 27.5% by 2030 compared to the fiscal year 2019. These targets are based on the standards of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)[※3], with Scope 1 and 2 certified for the 1.5°C target[※4] and Scope 3 for the Well-below 2°C target[※5].

To achieve this goal, Anritsu is working on increasing the ratio of private generated power through the introduction of in-house power generation facilities, hence called the “Anritsu Climate Change Action PGRE 30 [PGRE: Private Generation of Renewable Energy]”, converting to energy-saving equipment, and working to thoroughly conserve electricity for Scope 1 and 2. For Scope 3, Anritsu is collaborating with suppliers to promote energy saving in our products.

As a result, Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions in fiscal year 2023 were reduced by 25.6% compared to fiscal year 2021. Conversely, the GHG emissions for Scope 3 were reduced by 29.7% compared to fiscal year 2019 (Category 1: 23.3% reduction, Category 11: 34.7% reduction).

Reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2

  • Introduction of Renewable Energy:

Anritsu is promoting the introduction of solar power generation facilities in the Atsugi area (Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture), the Tohoku area (Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture), and Anritsu Company (California, USA), aiming to increase the ratio of private generated power to approximately 30% by around 2030 through PGRE 30 program. As of the end of March 2024, the solar private generation capacity was 3,094 kW, and the private generation ratio for the fiscal year 2023 was 10.4%. In the Tohoku area, large-capacity storage batteries have also been introduced to increase the self-consumption rate by using stored electricity at night.

  • Improvement of Energy Efficiency:

To order to improve the energy efficiency of our factories and offices, Anritsu considers energy-saving performance when installing transformer equipment, air conditioning equipment and introduces high-efficiency equipment. In addition, Anritsu formed an energy-saving core team to ensure proper air conditioning management and energy conservation in the laboratories. An intranet has been set up to track the power consumption of each workplace area monthly basis to raise employees' awareness of energy conservation. As a result, the energy consumption in fiscal year 2023 was reduced by 25.0% compared to fiscal year 2022, achieving significant results.

Reduction of Scope 3

  • Collaboration with Suppliers:

Anritsu is actively engaged with its suppliers and strengthening its efforts to reduce GHG emissions upstream of the supply chain.

  • Power-saving of Anritsu Products:

During the development of new products, Anritsu conducts product assessments and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to reduce energy consumption during product use.

Anritsu will continue to position climate change measures as an important management issue and contribute to the realization of a sustainable future for global society.

About CDP

CDP is an international non-profit organization that requests companies and municipalities to disclose environmental information on climate change, forest conservation, and water resource management, and evaluates and ranks their efforts. Each year, CDP sends companies a detailed questionnaire in these areas and evaluates them based on the collected data. In the 2024 survey, more than 24,800 companies worldwide responded. Of those that responded, over 2,100 companies, including more than 70% of them are listed on the Prime Market Japan.

CDP ratings have become an important standard for investors and consumers to assess a company's environmental risks and sustainability and are widely recognized as a global standard for corporate environmental disclosure.

Glossary

Scope 1: Direct emissions (greenhouse gases directly emitted from the company's factories, offices, vehicles, etc.).

Scope 2: Indirect emissions from energy sources (greenhouse gases indirectly emitted from the use of purchased heat, electricity, etc.).

[※2] Scope 3
Scope 3 is the emissions in the supply chain of corporate activities (excluding Scope 1 and 2) and is classified into 15 categories. Category 1 is the emissions related to purchased goods and services, and Category 11 is the emissions related to use of sold products.

The joint initiative by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
[※4] 1.5°C target
The target to limit the temperature rise to 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
[※5] Well-below 2°C target
The target to limit the temperature rise to well below 2°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
