RAIJIN PROJECT

Honor the Past, Engineer the Future.

The RAIJIN PROJECT is an initiative through which Anritsu, as it marks its 130th year, showcases Japanese craftsmanship to the world in collaboration with traditional Urushi lacquer art. While test instruments and lacquerware may seem worlds apart, they share a common mindset of continuous evolution by adopting new technologies and ideas, as well as a dedication to craftsmanship in close harmony with usersʼ expectations—delivering tangible, reliable performance.

In collaboration with SATO KIYOMATSU SHOTEN, a Kyoto lacquer atelier founded in 1921, Anritsu created a concept model (not for sale) featuring traditional Urushi decoration applied to a measuring instrument. Shaped by artisan skills passed down through generations, it stands as a one-of-a-kind expression of Japanese craftsmanship.

Concept Movie

Honor the Past, Engineer the Future.

Sticking with what you know might feel safe.

But the future is shaped by new choices.

Experience can sometimes limit what you believe is possible.

Yet staying ahead means stepping into the unknown.

For over a century, Anritsu has lived by this truth.

Thatʼ s why we meet every new challenge with support you can rely on.

We believe thinking things through with you is part of our performance.

Because weʼ re here to give innovation the power to break through.

So, if youʼ re ready to change what comes next, choose a partner who rises to that challenge with you.

Where innovation begins.

Raijin and Fujin

A concept model inspired by Wind God and Thunder God Screens,* a National Treasure of Japanese art. Raijin, the god of thunder, symbolizes the powerful energy that supports communications and electronics, while Fujin, the god of wind, symbolizes the flow that connects people and technology, bringing order and harmony to an increasingly connected world.

The Phoenix

The Phoenix concept model is rendered in Anritsu’s corporate green using traditional Urushi lacquer techniques. Rising again and again and soaring even higher, the Phoenix reflects Anritsu’s test and measurement technologies, which have opened new possibilities through innovation each time they have pushed beyond existing limits, as well as the company’s determination to continue taking on new challenges.

Where to See the Concept Model

The concept model will be shown at major exhibitions and trade shows around the world. We invite you to experience the essence of Japanese craftsmanship in person.

About Urushi Lacquer Art

Urushi is a natural coating harvested as sap from the lacquer tree. Applied in layer upon layer to create a deep luster and lasting strength, the craft of Urushi developed in Kyoto from around the 8th century, alongside the culture of the imperial court. By the 16th and 17th centuries, lacquerware from Kyoto had reached Europe, where it became known simply as japan — and its value is recognized internationally in art and design to this day.

About SATO KIYOMATSU SHOTEN

Founded in Kyoto in 1921, SATO KIYOMATSU SHOTEN is a traditional Urushi lacquer workshop. Its innovative, independently developed MR Urushi® has carried lacquer into new fields — architecture, automotive design, home appliances, and art. In this collaboration, it gives a measuring instrument a texture unlike any other.
