2010년 Anritsu는 PIM 오류를 정확히 찾아내는 Distance-to-PIM™(DTP)이라고 하는 특허 기술 개발에 투자하여 성공했다고 발표했습니다. DTP는 안테나 시스템 내의 PIM 문제에 대한 위치를 나타낼 뿐만 아니라, 안테나 시스템 바깥의 외부 PIM 소스까지의 거리를 보여줍니다. 이는 현장 PIM 테스트로부터 수신되는 정보의 품질을 개선하는 데 놀라운 진전이었습니다. 하지만 안테나 밖의 외부 PIM의 위치를 정확히 찾아내는 데에는 여전히 한 가지 문제가 존재했고, 이는 DTP가 안테나로부터 PIM의 소스가 얼마나 멀리 떨어져 있는지 거리를 나타낼 수는 있었지만 그 각도는 알 수 없었다는 점이었습니다. 안테나가 120의 빔폭을 지녔다면 PIM은 DTP가 측정한 거리에서 120호(arc) 내 어딘가에 위치할 수 있습니다.
PIM Hunter is a patent-pending technology that allows a test technician to pinpoint the location of external PIM beyond the antenna. By walking along the arc of the DTP distance from the antenna with PIM Hunter technicians can pinpoint the source of the PIM typically within a few centimeters.
The PIM hunting process begins with an Anritsu PIM Master MW82119B to inject two high-power test signals into the system under test. The test signals broadcast through the site antenna, exciting any PIM sources in the RF path. These PIM sources behave like CW transmitters radiating the IM3 frequency in all directions. With the PIM Hunter test probe connected to a spectrum analyzer in burst detect mode (Spectrum Master MS2720T or BTS Master MT8220T) or in custom setting (Spectrum Master MS2712E/MS2713E, Site Master S332E/S362E, or Cell Master MT8212E/MT8213E) and an appropriate bandpass filter installed, technicians can “hunt” for these IM3 signal sources along the arc of the distance provided by the DTP measurement of the PIM Master MW82119B. When the probe tip comes in close proximity to a PIM source, the PIM value increases by as much as 30 dB, indicating the precise location of the PIM source.
