Management of Chemical Substances in Products

To prevent the inclusion of hazardous chemical substances in its products, the Anritsu group complies with domestic and international laws, regulations, and industry standards (Act on the Regulation of Manufacture and Evaluation of Chemical Substances, EU RoHS Directive, REACH Regulation, EU Packaging Directive, etc.). The chemical substances contained in products and packaging materials are defined in the Anritsu Group Global Green Procurement Specification and are managed appropriately in collaboration with suppliers.

Chemical Substances in Products Control Criteria

Chemical substances contained in products are investigated based on the list of substances to be reported in IEC62474 (Material Declaration for Products of and for the Electrotechnical Industry), which is prepared by the International Electrotechnical Commission, and are managed in the following categories:

  • Banned Substances : Substances which have been found by government agencies to be un-acceptable due to health or environmental impact. These must not be in materials/products supplied to Anritsu.
  • Conditional Banned Substances : Substances that must not be contained in any materials/parts, but have a material ban deadline or the exemption set by a law. Anritsu suppliers must work to reduce these so they are not contained in materials/parts in sufficient time to meet the ban deadline Preferable much before in order to reduce the risk of product supply problems.
  • Controlled Substances : Substances that must have their content stated on requests from Anritsu (parts where used, etc.) and managed to ensure they are not contained in materials/parts when they are banned.

Management of Chemical Substances in Products

In the Domestic Group, we have created a database (hereinafter, “Environmental DB") to manage information on chemical substances contained in purchased materials and properly manage them. Chemical substances contained in purchased materials are surveyed using chemSHERPA (a common scheme for the transmission of information on chemical substances contained in products) developed by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Development, manufacturing and shipping initiatives

In product development, at each stage of design review/verification, and new product evaluation, we check the chemical substances used against the Environmental DB to confirm compliance with laws and regulations and prevent the inclusion of unregistered substances or substances whose use is prohibited.

The Procurement Department places orders with suppliers that have been certified as Environmental Partner Companies. In manufacturing, we properly manage parts, equipment, and tools at every stage from receipt to shipping, and prepare a manufacturing compliance report for hazardous substances before shipping inspection. Also in the Transportation Department, shipping packaging is properly managed.

Cadmium, lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB, PBDE, and four phthalates (DEHP, BBP, DBP, DIBP) are regulated substances under the RoHS Directive. To reduce the risk of these substances leaking into the market, we have installed analyzers and conduct spot checks of purchased parts and materials.
