Anritsu D/A Converter (DAC) for 64Gbaud PAM4 Signal Generation
The G0361A for the MP1800A will help early development of next-generation 400GbE
Anritsu Corporation is starting sales of the company’s new G0361A 64Gbaud 2-bit DAC with MUX accessory for the Anritsu Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A series from now.
Combining the G0361A with any of the MU183020A/MU183021A 28/32 Gbit/s multi-channel Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) modules for the MP1800A supports generation of PAM4 signals up to 64 Gbaud, such as the 53.125 Gbaud signal defined by the next-generation 400GbE standard. With a 4:2 multiplexing function in the input section, the G0361A can generate signals ranging from 32 Gbit/s x 4CH NRZ to 64 Gbaud PAM4 supporting easy and low-cost expansion to 64 Gbaud PAM4 required by next-generation 400GbE.

The explosive increase in data communications traffic is driving investigation into methods for increasing server and network equipment communications speeds. The 400GbE next-generation Ethernet standard now under investigation not only uses faster symbol bit rates and more lanes, but also uses the PAM modulation method to increase the transfer capacity per unit time. Unlike the presently used NRZ signalling method, PAM4 signalling is a more efficient transmission method carrying twice as much data per unit time and current R&D is focusing on high-speed electronic and optical devices supporting PAM4.
Anritsu’s Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A series already supports evaluation of devices and modules for the latest communications standards, and connecting this newly released G0361A to the MP1800A offers support for generating high-baud-rate PAM4 signals.
The Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A is a plug-in module type Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) for generating up to 8 channels of synchronized signals using a 32G PPG module. Connecting the newly released G0361A as an external function module to the MP1800A series supports generation of various signals ranging from 32Gbit/s x 4ch NRZ to 64 Gbaud PAM4. In comparison to methods for generating PAM4 signals from 64 Gbit/s signals, using the G0361A not only eliminates complex setup and configuration issues but also minimizes capital equipment costs and expands support for R&D into next-generation 400GbE.
