Anritsu MD8430A LTE Network Simulator Provides World’s First Support for TD-LTE Carrier Aggregation

MD8430A Signalling Tester expands LTE-Advanced Test Functions


With the launch of its MD8430A-085 Carrier Aggregation Option, Anritsu Corporation has announced that the company’s MD8430A Signalling Tester with LTE-Advanced(Note) test functions has added world-first support for the TD-LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation test and also now supports the 3GPP Release 10 eICIC and TM9 tests.

Installing the MD8430A-085 option in the MD8430A main frame supports configuration of a TD-LTE Advanced test network with a terminal Carrier Aggregation test function.

The MD8430A already supports FDD LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation function evaluations and this new rollout adds support for the TD-LTE Advanced standard launching in China and expected to be rolled-out by mobile carriers in India, Russia, etc.

With this launch of the world’s first base station simulator supporting TD-LTE Advanced, Anritsu expects to help promote development of TD-LTE terminals and chipsets, as well as accelerate mobile broadband deployment and speeds even further.

LTE-Advanced is a next-generation mobile communications system offering faster speeds than the widely deployed LTE standard with maximum data transfer rates of 1 Gbps while stationary or moving slowly and 100 Mbps when moving faster. There are two LTE-Advanced technologies: FDD, and TDD. Unlike the FDD method, which splits the used frequency band into separate frequencies for sending and receiving at the same time, the TDD method splits the send and receive signals at the same frequency into short time slots that are sent alternately.

The spread of flat-rate data communications services and cloud computing has accelerated the deployment of various LTE mobile terminals, such as smartphones, tablets, USB-card type data terminals, etc. At the same time, increasing use of rich-content services such as movie and video streaming is driving demand for mobile circuits supporting much faster speeds and larger data capacities.

The high-speed LTE-Advanced technology using Carrier Aggregation has been developed as a solution offering faster speeds than the earlier LTE standard. A base station simulator supporting the LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation function is urgently needed for testing.

Anritsu already markets its MD8430A Signalling Tester as a base station simulator for both LTE and LTE-Advanced tests supporting FDD/TDD technologies. Today’s launch adds world-first support for TD LTE-Advanced Carrier Aggregation tests to its existing FDD LTE- Advanced Carrier Aggregation test functions, helping support service and product rollouts by the world’s mobile carriers, and terminal and chipset vendors.

The MD8430A Signalling Tester is a base station simulator supporting LTE/LTE-Advanced technologies. The MD8430A-085 Carrier Aggregation Option is an option for the MD8430A adding support for TD-LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation function tests to the already supported FDD-LTE Advanced Carrier Aggregation tests.

Installing the MD8430A-085 in the MD8430A main frame enables it to simulate operation as both an FDD and a TDD LTE-Advanced base station to support Carrier Aggregation function, coding/decoding, protocol, and throughput test evaluations.

This launch offers engineers an ideal bench-top solution for simulating a TD-LTE Advanced  network to run Carrier Aggregation tests in different communications environments that are hard to support on a live communications network.

In addition, this launch strengthens the MD8430A main-frame functions by supporting connection tests in eICIC and TM9 usage environments as specified by the latest LTE-Advanced 3GPP Release10 standard.
