Signalling Tester MD8475A

Anritsu Corporation (President Hirokazu Hashimoto) announced that it is accepting orders for two newly developed software packages (MX847570A-055 LTE TDD Option and MX847570A-040 LTE-SCDMA Option) upgrading the functions of the MX847570A SmartStudio software tools for its popular MD8475A Signalling Tester by supporting the LTE TDD*1 and TD-SCDMA*2 technologies.

The MD8475A is all all-in-one base-station simulator composed of a main frame, hardware and software, supporting each of the various communications protocols using an easy-to-operate GUI*3 for setting test conditions.

Installing the MX847570A-055 and MX847570A-040 in the MD8475A in which the LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA measurement hardware and MX847570A  have been installed supports LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA smartphone and mobile terminal communications function tests and service verification without needing to create complex sequence programs*4.

The LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA method used in China is also becoming more widespread as smartphones and mobile terminals using the same method are appearing worldwide.

With the new release, Anritsu is offering a new verification solution for LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA smartphones and terminals, helping speed-up deployment of mobile broadband services.


[Development Background]

The LTE communications standard is split into two basic methods called LTE FDD and LTE TDD. The latter is expected to be widely adopted in China, India, and other newly developing economies. Since the TD-SCDMA method is used widely in China, both LTE TDD and TD-SCDMA communications share the same base stations and there is an urgent need in this field for a base station simulator supporting both these methods.

Anritsu launched its popular MD8475A Signalling Tester as a base-station simulator starting with support for LTE FDD and extending to various communications methods used by carriers and makers worldwide.

With this release, the company has extended the MD8475A support to include LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA smartphones and mobile terminals.

The MX847570A-055 LTE TDD and MX847570A-040 TD-SCDMA options are software for the MD8475A Signalling Tester.

Installing these packages in the MD8475A in which both the LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA measurement hardware and MX847570A option have been installed previously operates the MD8475A as a base-station simulator with the functions required for LTE TDD/TD-SCDMA smartphone and mobile terminal communications and service verification tests.

Moreover, the MD8475A also supports tests of both legacy 2G and 3G mobile systems still in widespread use for evaluation of multimode LTE TDD smartphones and mobile terminals including TDD LTE/W-CDMA and TDD LTE/TD-SCDMA/GSM.

MD8475A Signalling Tester

The MD8475A is an all-in-one signalling tester for multiple communications systems and is composed of a main frame and hardware and software options supporting each communications method. It can be used to configure a cost-effective test environment customized for the application. Test and operation conditions are set using an easy to use GUI. It meets the 3GPP Category 4*5 specifications, offering download speeds (base station to mobile) of 150 Mbps*6 and upload speeds (mobile to base station) of 50 Mbps, and is the ideal Throughput*7 measurement solution. The built-in PC uses the Windows 7 OS, eliminating the need for an external application server and controller and making it easy and cost-effective to configure a space-saving, personal bench-top environment.

*1 LTE TDD: Long Term Evolution Time Division Duplex

The LTE standard is divided into two technologies: TDD and FDD. TDD is the abbreviation for Time Division Duplex in which the sent and received signals use the same frequency at different  short time intervals. Sending and receiving occur alternately at different high speeds (100 Mbps or more for downlink from base station to mobile and 50 Mbps or more for uplink from mobile to base station). In contrast, LTE FDD send and receives simultaneously over different frequencies.

*2 TD-SCDMA: Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access

One 3G mobile communications technology used in Chinese mobile market.

*3 GUI: Graphical User Interface

Interface displaying information for user in graphical format with basic operations executed using simple pointing device such as mouse.
