Anritsu Corporation (President Hirokazu Hashimoto) today announced the November 8 rollout of its MP2100A/01A-090 Bit Rate Expansion and MP2100A/02A-061 to -086 Low Pass Filter options to upgrade the functions of the company's popular BERTWave MP2100A series by supporting evaluation of various active optical devices*1 from 125 Mbit/s*2 to 12.5 Gbit/s*3.The MP2100A series is an all-in-one instrument supporting simultaneous BER*4 measurements and Eye Pattern*5 analyses used for evaluating the performance characteristics of active parts.
Installing the newly developed MP2100A/01A-090 in the MP2100A series expands the previous upper limit from 11.32 Gbit/s to 12.5Gbit/s and supports a BER bit rate*6 measurement range from 125 Mbit/s to 12.5 Gbit/s.
Additionally, the MP2100A/02A-061 to -086 options add six new, built-in Bessel filters*7 to complete the lineup of filters needed for Eye Pattern analyses.
These new developments increase the usefulness of MP2100A series by adding support for next-generation 10-Gbit band devices while also offering all-in-one performance evaluation of low-bit-rate active optical devices used by communications systems.

[Development Background]
The increasing demand for cloud computing*8 services and high-definition video content distribution as well as this year's December launch of LTE (Long Term Evolution) services offering FTTH-class speeds for mobile devices in Japan and the USA is driving ever-increasing need for higher transmission capacity. Communications networks worldwide are converting to optical fiber to meet these bandwidth needs and R&D and production of optical devices for these networks is becoming increasingly active.
Anritsu's BERTWave MP2100A series is an early key player in this market sector based on its all-in-one support for simultaneous BER measurement and Eye Pattern analyses required for evaluating the performance of active optical devices as well market-leading cost performance. However, there has been an issue with BER measurement bit rates and Bessel filters limited to high-frequency bandwidths. Today's release overcomes these issues by upgrading the MP2100A functions with an expanded measurement bit rate and a full selection of Bessel filter options satisfying every measurement need.
As a result, the all-in-one MP2100A series now supports performance evaluation of all active optical devices currently used by communications technologies worldwide.

The MP2100A/01A-090 Bit Rate Expansion and MP2100A/02A-061 to -086 Low Pass Filter options released today are hardware options for the MP2100A; the MP2100A/01A-090 extends the BER measurement bit rate by counting bit errors in signals between 125 Mbit/s and 12.5 Gbit/s, while the MP2100A/02A-061 to -086 adds up to six new Bessel filters required for Eye Pattern analysis of optical signals. Not only do these new hardware options increase the general usefulness of the MP2100A series, they also assure easy, all-in-one performance evaluation of active optical devices used by the world's communications standards, such as 100BASE-FX*9, OC-3/STM*10, CPRI*11, OUT-2*12, etc.
With this release, the MP2100A combines the BER measurement functions of the MP2101A with the Eye Pattern analysis functions of the MP2102A, offering an effective cost-performance solution tailored to measurement needs.

■Supports main communications technologies
The world's optical communications technologies range mainly from low-speed systems in the 100 Mbit/s band to high-speed systems in the 10 Gbit/s band. Installing the new hardware options released today in the MP2100A supports BER measurements and Eye Pattern analyses of signals between 125 Mbit/s and 12.5 Gbit/s.

■Excellent cost performance ratio
The all-in-one MP2100A series supports simultaneous BER measurements and Eye Pattern analyses required for performance evaluation of active optical devices. Eliminating separate instruments for these measurements assures excellent equipment cost performance while halving measurement times.

■Evaluation of LTE optical devices
The MP2100A series supports acceptance inspection tests at bit rates used by LTE optical transceivers (6.14/4/92/3.07/2.46/1.32 Gbit/s).

■High-speed remote measurement
Manufacturing inspection of active optical devices is performed by automatic remote commands from a connected PC. The MP2100A series supports batch processing of multiple measurement commands to increase the throughout efficiency of manufacturing inspections. 

■High-accuracy extinction ratio measurement*13
Extinction ratio is the most important measurement item at Eye Pattern analysis. The full lineup of Anritsu-developed Bessel filter options for the MP2100A series and built-in calibration function control measurement dispersion to assure extinction ratio measurements as close as possible to the true value.
