120 years of Anritsu

Anritsu was founded in 1895, the year in which Marconi successfully demonstrated the world's first wireless telegraph. The development of Anritsu has traced the emergence of modern communications, and its history has run concurrent with the evolution of information and communication networks. 


  • 1895

    "Sekisan-sha" the joint-investment company, established predecessor of Anritsu

  • 1900

    Annaka Electric Co., Ltd. established

  • 1903

    Annaka exhibits a wireless communication transmitter and a 30cm spark coil at the 5th Japan National Industrial Exhibition

  • 1908

    Merger of Sekisan-sha with Abe Electric Co., Ltd to establish the Kyoritsu Electric Co., Ltd.
    Kyoritsu concentrates on mass production of common-battery telephone (renamed the public telephone in 1925)

  • 1912

    Annaka and Ministry of Post and Communications Electrotechnical Laboratory complete manufacture of the TYK Radio telephone
    The telephone was installed for cable and telegraph services (between Toshijima and Kamijima in Toba, Mie prefecture in 1914 where it garnished attention as the world’s first practical use wireless telephone)

  • 1924

    Annaka begins manufacture of radio receivers, speakers and headphones following the introduction of radio broadcasting

  • 1925

    Annaka manufactures Japan’s first 500-watt broadcasting equipment for use at the Tokyo Central Radio Station, Atagoyama Transmitter Station No. 2 Facility

  • 1928

    Annaka manufactures Marine-Use 2kW Remote Operation Wireless Transmitter
    Supplied Asama-maru and other U.S./Europe-bound ships that were highly regarded


  • 1931

    Anritsu Electric Co., Ltd. established, following the merger of Kyoritsu Electric with Annaka Electric

  • 1933

    Anritsu produces Japan's first TV broadcast transmitter, supplied to Hamamatsu Advanced Technical School (now Shizuoka University)

  • 1939

    Anritsu completes Japan’s first automated public telephone (unit No. 1)
    Anritsu develops AC-bias magnetic sound recorder, the prototype of modern tape recorders

  • 1943

    Anritsu begins manufacture of repeaters for transmission by coaxial cable

  • 1949

    Anritsu implements the split-up of radio receiver division, measuring instrument division and gramophone division, to create new independent companies

  • 1950

    Anritsu develops ARM-6074 strength meter for ultra-short wave electric fields employing a doublet antenna

  • 1953

    Anritsu starts mass production of charge deferred payment-type public telephone (Model No. 4)

  • 1961

    Anritsu establishes new Atsugi Factory

  • 1962

    Anritsu begins manufacture of industrial measuring instrument (electronic micrometers)

  • 1964

    Anritsu begins manufacture of automatic check weigher (AutoChecker)

  • 1967

    Anritsu succeeds in practical application of hybrid thick-film and thin-film IC's
    Anritsu begins manufacture of traffic information systems

  • 1968

    Anritsu listed on the First Section of Tokyo Stock Exchange

    Anritsu begins exporting public telephones for Australia

    Anritsu develops M501A laser outer diameter measuring instrument necessary for the manufacture of optical fibers

  • 1977

    Anritsu develops 2Gb/s ultra high-speed error rate detector
    Anritsu begins productization of optical communications measuring instruments
    Anritsu establishes Anritsu Eletrônica Ltda. (Rio de Janeiro)

  • 1978

    Anritsu establishes Anritsu America (New Jersey)

  • 1979

    Completion of new head office building
    Anritsu receives a high-volume order for micro-circuit measuring instruments from AT&T (the United States)

  • 1980

    Anritsu establishes Anritsu Europe (Bedfordshire, United Kingdom)

  • 1981

    Anritsu develops Optical Time Domain Reflectometer ahead of the global trend

  • 1982

    Anritsu announces INMARSAT-ship terminal, the first terminal officially approved by INMARSAT

  • 1985

    Anritsu changes its company name to the Anritsu Corporation on October 1

    Anritsu Establishes Tohoku Anritsu Co., Ltd.

  • 1986

    Anritsu develops 5GHz pulse pattern generator, actively used in research and development of optical fiber communications systems and ultra-high-speed logic elements

    Anritsu develops 12.5GHz ultra high-speed error rate detector
    Anritsu establishes Anritsu Wiltron Pte. Ltd. (Singapore)

    Anritsu celebrated its 100-year anniversary

    Anritsu transfers its head office to Atsugi City, Kanagawa Prefecture

    Anritsu acquires the Danish Instrument Manufacturer NetTest, to establish Anritsu A/S (Copenhagen, Denmark)

    Anritsu obtains GCF/PTCRB approval for its world first LTE Conformance Test System
