By combining a BERT and sampling oscilloscope (as either one or both options) in an all-in-one instrument, the BERTWave™ MP2110A is the ideal choice for optical module and device production lines. With the following five features, the sampling oscilloscope upgrades line throughput and productivity.
Features 1 - Trigger-signal-free evaluation of various optical modules
Two optional built-in clock recovery units are available according to the application. With both options installed, one unit can evaluate various types of optical modules without requiring a trigger signal. Moreover, multiple channels can be measured at once when used in combination with a 4ch oscilloscope.

Features 2 - Higher Measurement Throughput using High Sampling Speed
Inspection and testing of optical modules and devices requires a sufficiently large number of samples to capture the output waveform of the stabilized optical module, but increasing the sample count increases the measurement time, which makes sampling speed a key performance factor.
Optical Module Manufacturing Steps
- (1) Initialize measurement-environment settings
- (2) Adjust products to meet standards
- (3) Perform compliance testing to confirm problem-free products

With a sampling speed of 250 ksamples/s (about six times faster than previous instruments), the MP2110A sampling oscilloscope can finish measurement in about 5 s*1 when using 1 million samples.
*1: Time from starting to finishing measurement

Features 3 - Shorter Time from Initial Setup to Inspection Measurement due to Shorter Time Until Results
At optical module and device adjustment, the Extinction Ratio and Average Power values are measured over with repeated adjustment until they meet the standards. Consequently, reducing the time from starting sampling until results capture plays a key role in shortening manufacturing time and improving productivity. The MP2110A captures the required results in about 0.5 s*2.

Features 4 - Built-in PC Assures Stable Performance Without External Controller
The MP2110A requires no external PC controller because it has a built-in PC for measurement processing.
Additionally, it supports high-speed processing irrespective of external PC controller specifications.

Features 5 - Higher Line Yields due to High-Sensitivity O/E
The optical interface of the BERTWave™ MP2110A sampling oscilloscope has a high sensitivity of -15 dBm*3 (typ, SMF). Consequently, it can capture measurement results even for low-noise Eye patterns from attenuated signals after passage through optical switches, etc., helping improve production-line yields. Additionally, it also supports measurement of closed Eye patterns that are hard to measure with previous instruments.

Added Options for Function Upgrades
PAM4 Analysis (Option 095)
- In addition to NRZ signals, PAM4 signals-including TDECQ*-can be analyzed, which supports all-in-one measurement of 100G/200G/400G optical modules.
*TDECQ: Measurement item representing PAM4 signal quality and equivalent to NRZ Eye Mask
NRZ Jitter Analysis (Option 096)
- At Total Jitter measurement, Jitter components, such as DJ and RJ, can be measured separately. Jitter generation sources can also be inferred.

NRZ/PAM4 Differential Electrical Signal Evaluation (Option 098) NEW

The Eye pattern of differential electrical signals can be analyzed using the Differential Electrical Channel Oscilloscope (Option 021) and Signal Processing Option (Option 098).
- A standards-compliant band filter and equalizer, such as CTLE, can be applied.
- The measurement system, such as cables, can be calibrated using the De-embedding function.
Additionally, installing the Clock Recovery Unit (CRU, Opt-054) eliminates the need to provide a trigger signal.
