Anritsu Company, a world leader in high-speed test instrumentation, will conduct live demonstrations of its 32 Gbit/s test solution featuring the Anritsu MP1800A BER Testers in its booth (#501) during DesignCon 2013, to be held January 28–30 in Santa Clara, CA. Anritsu will also be displaying its VectorStar Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) platform, and presented a tutorial session on Monday, January 28.

As shown in the 32 Gbit/s demonstration, the MP1800A features the performance – including low intrinsic clock jitter of <350 fs (RMS) and a unique eye contour function – necessary for engineers to evaluate jitter, ISI, and crosstalk at signals up to 32 Gbit/s and employ necessary countermeasures to ensure signal integrity. The demonstration will also show how engineers can use the solution to account for signal integrity reduction for the transmitter and receiver circuits, ensuring the quality of the output signal and receiver tolerance to validate backplane and high-speed interface performance.
The MP1800A will be configured with the MP1825B 4Tap Emphasis at another station in the Anritsu DesignCon booth. The solution supports easy changes to the pre-emphasis waveform amplitude, offset, and amplitude of each tap, for effective evaluation of the characteristics of high-speed interfaces below 10 Gbit/s, such as PCIe, USB, and Backplane Ethernet requiring pre-emphasis signals, as well as InfiniBand 26G-IB-EDR, CEI-28G-VSR, and other interconnect technologies in the 25/28 Gbit/s band.
The VectorStar platform, with industry-best frequency coverage of 70 kHz to 125 GHz, industry-best dynamic range of 108 dB at 65 GHz and 107 dB at 110 GHz, and industry-best measurement speed of 55 ms for 201 pts., is well suited for broadband and millimeter-wave (mmWave) signal integrity applications. At DesignCon, the broadband VectorStar ME7838A VNA and VectorStar MS4647A VNA will be on display.
VectorStar was also referenced in an informative tutorial session entitled Methods of Improving 3D EM Model Development and Associated Time/Frequency-Domain Measurements. Dr. Jon Martens and Bob Buxton of Anritsu teamed with James Bell and Alfred Neves of Wild River Technology, LLC for the presentation, held Monday, January 28.
Optical Module and Active Optical Cable Test Solutions
Also on display at DesignCon will be the MP2100 BERTWave all-in-one BERT and EYE/Pulse Scope solution, and the MS9740A optical spectrum analyzer, for evaluating XFP/SFP-type optical modules, laser devices and optical cables used in optical communication systems. The MP2100 combines a BERT and sampling oscilloscope to reduce Gating Time by 90% compared to conventional BERT equipment and the EYE/Pulse Scope function is 300% faster. Offering excellent price/performance, the MS9740A can measure optical devices in <0.2s, has ≤70 dB dynamic range, and 30 pm minimum RBW.
