Morgan Hill, CA (October 2008) - Anritsu Company, the market leader in Bluetooth test solutions, introduces the world's first integrated test set to measure the new generation of Bluetooth low-energy products, as well as a solution to support the Enhanced Power Control (EPC) feature. The new options, for the MT8852B Bluetooth test set, allow engineers to conduct highly accurate and efficient tests on Bluetooth devices during both the development and manufacturing stages.

The Bluetooth SIG is currently developing a new version of the Bluetooth standard to enable wireless technology to be embedded into products that receive their power from simple button cell batteries. This technology is expected to become commonplace in a wide range of applications, including health care monitors, sports and fitness sensors, industrial sensors and remote displays such as wrist watches.

Anritsu has developed the low-energy test capability to meet the urgent market demand to characterize the performance of the first generation of Bluetooth low-energy chips now being sampled by leading Bluetooth silicon developers. With the option, the MT8852B performs measurements on low-energy devices as defined in the current Bluetooth test specification documents.

As well as performing Bluetooth low-energy measurements in a fully automated test script on the MT8852B test set, a PC application is supplied that enables developers to see the low-energy packet's power and modulation characteristics graphically in a Windows environment. This makes the option ideal for both high-speed manufacturing test and design characterization in the development lab.

In addition to the low-energy option, Anritsu is introducing an option for testing devices that support the Bluetooth EPC feature. EPC is being included in the Bluetooth specification to make standard Bluetooth devices more tolerant of rapid power level changes, especially power fades. This update to the specification has introduced a new RF test case that is supported by the MT8852B through software option MT8852B-23.

About the MT8852B
The MT8852B offers the most comprehensive testing facilities of any Bluetooth wireless technology enabled test set. It is widely used by all leading developers and manufacturers for Bluetooth Basic Rate, Enhanced Data Rate and audio measurements. It also has the unique ability to test the Adaptive Frequency Hopping (AFH) feature of Bluetooth that facilitates co-existence with 2.4 GHz 802.11 WLAN products. Support software includes Anritsu's BlueSuite Pro3 PC application for viewing all Bluetooth packet waveforms and BlueTest for automating high volume production test.

The Bluetooth low energy option for MT8852B (MT8852B-27) and Bluetooth EPC option for MT8852B (MT8852B-23) has a delivery of 2 to 4 weeks ARO.
