Preventing false evaluation: Unifying the product orientation

Vol.17 March, 2022

Technical Note Vol.17 March, 2022A metal detector creates a magnetic field in its detector head and monitors a change in a magnetic field when a product passes it through. When the signal exceeds the set value (threshold), it evaluates the change as a metal contamination.

This time, we explain how the direction in which the product enters the detector head changes the product effect value and evaluation for PASS/Defective products.

Is the product fed properly when performing the auto-setting?

Vol.16 October, 2021

Technical Note Vol.16 October, 2021Metal detectors are widely used from raw materials to final processes for the purpose of detecting metal contaminants in foods, pharmaceuticals, industrial products, etc. To keep the standards for food safety, product quality managers are required to perform the sensitivity settings correctly when using the metal detectors. Our customer support center frequently receives inquiries from customers using our metal detectors that they cannot meet the in-house standards of sensitivity and that there are many malfunctions on site.

This paper explains the correct way of feeding the product when performing the auto-setting. By identifying the cause of the problem, proper measures can be taken.

Why do seal defects occur?

Vol.15 Septemper, 2021

Technical Note Vol.15 Septemper, 2021In product packaging process, a part of the product content is sometimes pinched and caught in the sealing area.
This white paper explains why seal defect matters and how it's caused.
Seal Inspection function with X-ray inspection system is very effective in eliminating products with seal defect.

Tips for Effective Use of Checkweigher: The Photocell Error

Vol.14 Feburary, 2021

Technical Note Vol.14 Feburary, 2021Product inspection equipment use photoelectric sensors that identify each product to be inspected when it is conveyed. Anritsu's customer support center often receives phone calls from our customers regarding the photocell errors. In many cases, these errors can be prevented by proper cleaning and regular inspection.
This paper explains typical causes of the errors and countermeasures, while explaining different types of photoelectric sensors.

Tips for Effective Use of Checkweigher: A Zero-Set Error

Vol.13 December, 2020

Technical Note Vol.13 December, 2020Checkweigher automatically adjusts the system to indicate zero gram when there is no product on the weighing conveyor. However, Auto Zero sometimes fails due to several reasons like big change in temperature and humidity at the production plant, draft from an air conditioner, floor vibrations, etc. This paper explains measures for a zero-set error when using a checkweigher.

Cleaning and Maintenance on X-ray Inspection Systems That Can Be Easily Missed.

Vol.12 July, 2020

Technical Note Vol.12 July, 2020Generally, cleaning of production equipment prevents the growth of bacteria from food residue and stains. In terms of X-ray inspection system, proper cleaning also eliminates the cause of false rejects and extends the service life of the equipment. In addition, regular performance validation and maintenance provides a lot of important benefits.

This paper explains about cleaning and maintenance which users tend to overlook.

Metal Detector-Method for Fixing Test Pieces during Sensitivity Check

Vol.11 October, 2016

Technical Note Vol.11 October, 2016Those who use a metal detector can perform a sensitivity check by attaching a test piece on a product prior to the start of production. Detection of test pieces by the metal detector would vary depending on which position of a detection head (the tunnel where a magnetic field is generated) test pieces pass through. This paper will explain how the detection of test pieces vary and how to fix a test piece on a sample product.

What is Relative Virtual Weight by X-ray Inspection Systems?

Vol.10 May, 2016

Technical Note Vol.10 May, 2016Have you heard of the relative mass measurement by x-ray inspection systems? Many of you may wonder why x-ray systems can virtually measure product weight. Relative mass is the value which the difference of density between x-ray images of the reference master product and the inspected product is converted into the mass. This paper explains the principles of the relative virtual weight measurement, usage, and cautions.

What is Algorithm for X-ray Inspection Systems?

Vol.9 December, 2015

Technical Note (For general use) Vol.9 December, 2015Have you heard the word "algorithm"? You may have heard of algorithm but most of you may never handle it by yourself and leave it to your serviceperson. This paper explains what algorithm is as well as both advantages and disadvantages of finding different algorithms.

Checkweighers' Double Product Error and Improved Productivity

Vol.8 June, 2014

Technical Note (For general use) Vol.8 June, 2014When using a checkweigher, you may have experienced a sudden occurrence of a double product error. Frequent double product error can decrease productivity. This paper will focus on the error and propose a solution.

Quality Control with the Use of Checkweighers

Vol.7 July, 2013

Technical Note (For general use) Vol.7 July, 2013The primary purpose of a checkweigher is to measure the weight of products and reject unacceptable under or overweight products. In addition to measuring product weight, checkweighers can be also used for quality control purposes. This paper introduces how to improve the quality of your product using a histogram.

Checkweigher and weighing accuracy

Vol.6 September, 2012

Technical Note (For general use) Vol.6 September, 2012A checkweigher is widely known as an automatic machine that che cks the weight of items as they pass through a production line. Y ou may have one at your facility but if yours is not appropriate for your production line, it may undermine producti on efficiency. There are various technical parameters for a checkweigher including weighing rang e, conveying capacity, measurement accuracy and scale interval, among which this paper explains measurement accuracy along with basic functions of a checkweigher.
