What is the dynamic range for the MS2721B Tracking generator?

With the MS2721B set to 1 kHz RBW at a reference level of-60 dBm with the preamplifier turned on, the noise floor from 824 to 835 MHz isat about -136 dBm. I used 10 averages to get a clean measurement. The tracking generator is set to 0 dBm while making the measurement

How can I tell what firmware changes/improvements have made to my instrument?

Go to www.anritsu.com, type in your model numberin the “search box” press enter, click on the link that represents yourinstrument, then click on the “Library” tab, go to “Driver, Software Downloads”and click “Firmware update for XXXX (your model)” click where you see “ReleaseHistory” and the improvements/changes will be listed by the option.

I have an MS2713E, how can I tell what version of firmware is installed?

Press “Shift”, “System (#8 key)”, “Status” and look at“Package Version”.

I wired my handheld tester to my laptop, then I configured the ethernet settings accordingly, but was unable to make a connection. Is there more that I must do?

There are two things to keep in mind when using a LAN remote connection to the handheld testers:   1)  Changes made to the LAN settings do not take affect immediately - the power must be cycled for the changes to take affect.   2)  In an effort to maximize battery life, if no LAN connection is detected at power up, the LAN parts are turned off.  The only way to turn the LAN parts on is to turn the power off, connect to the LAN, and then turn power on.   So, in this case, where the LAN configuration was set and the connecting made, cycling power should allow a connection to be made.

What is the preferred method for updating firmware for Anritsu Handheld RF tools such as the Site Master, Cell Master, VNA Master, LMR Master, Spectrum Master, or BTS Master?

Firmware updates are located under the library tab on the web page of each Anritsu handheld instrument. The installation process will require the use of an USB Memory Stick. Instructions and prompts will appear when the update is executed on your computer.   Older insturments, ones that do not have a firmware update listed in their library tab, can be updated using Anritsu's Master Software Tools. In this case, the preferred media is Ethernet if they have an Ethernet interface, or serial if they do not.  The MS2721B, MS2723B, MS2724B, MT8222A, and MS2026A are transition instruments. If these instruments have firmware created before August of 2009, Master Software Tools and an Ethernet connection will be requried to update their firmware. Once updated, future updates can be done by the USB Memory Stick method, using firmware downloaded from the instrument's web page.

for the SC7442 what is the drawing holes dimensions

the holes is open from one side to the other and All 4 of the flange mounting are tapped with the standard 4-40 thread.

Is there a replacement for the VP103F

There is no replacement for this part. 

What is the differences between FER and BER

Frame Erasure Rate, FER, is defined as the amount of swept speech frames (260 bits each)divided by the amount of transmitted speech frames. The speech frame is swept if even one ofits most important 50 bits is observed not to be correct. The three parity bits following the 50class Ia bits are used for error detection.· Bit Error Rate, BER, is the ratio of erroneously received bits to all received bits. It isimportant to notice that BER is evaluated before channel decoding, i.e. after equaliser. BER isused for defining the RXQUAL value

Is it possible to set more than 5 segmented limit lines on MS2711D?

No, it is not possible to set more than 5 segmented limit lines on the MS2711D however we have other Handheld Spectrum Analyzers in which a limit line can consist of up to 40 segments. The model numbers are MS2721B, MS2723B, and MS2724B.

I have a MS2721A Spectrum Master and I want to set my MAX Hold. How do I set It?

Press shift and trace keys, then select Trace A softkey menu, then select Max-Hold softkey.

Are the display data points fixed in the MS2721A Spectrum Analyzer?

Yes, the display data points are fixed and are independent of the Frequency Span and Resolution Bandwidth. There are 551 display points when the instrument is in the normal screen display. By selecting the Trace Fullscreen (On) feature the display point count increases to 661.

Do any of your spectrum analyzers have a quasi-peak detect function (to use for FCC testing)?

Yes, the MS2721B Spectrum Analyzer has quasi-peak detection function. Resolution bandwidth is 200 Hz, 9 kHz, and 120 KHz when quasi-peak detector is selected.

What is the memory (Internal Flash Memory and EEPROM) clearing procedure for MS2724B Spectrum Master?

To erase all the user information that is stored in Internal Flash Memory and EEPROM, a master reset needs to be done on the instrument. Below is the master reset procedure.: 1. Turn the MS2724B. 2. Press the Shift button then the 8/System button. 3. Press the System Options soft key. 4. Press the Reset soft key. 5. Press the Master Reset soft key. 6. A dialog box will be displayed on the instruments screen warning that all settings will be returned to factory default values and all user files will be deleted. 7. Press the ENTER button to complete the master reset. 8. After several seconds (which can grow to several minutes if there are a very large number of measurements saved in the instrument) the instrument will reboot.

The MS272xB spectrum analyzer has several detector modes, how do I select the right one for my measurements?

 The available detectors are Peak, RMS, Negative, Sample and Quasi-peak. During sweeps, several measurements are made as slightly different frequencies for each display point. The peak detector displays the largest measured value for each display point, assuring that narrow spikes are not missed, the RMS detector calculates the RMS value of the several measurements for each display point and is best suited for measuring noise or noise-like signals, the negative detector displays the smallest measured value for each display point and is useful for making small signals near the noise floor more visible, the sample detector measures one point for each display point, making it the fastest detector. It is best suited for measuring broad signals where the value doesn't change rapidly with frequency; The quasi-peak detector is designed to meet CISPR requirements and is primarily used for EMC measurements in conjunction with special resolution bandwidths.

When I change the RBW or add input attenuation on my spectrum analyzer, the noise floor changes. Why?

The noise floor is caused by thermal noise generated in the instrument's circuits. When you select a wider resolution bandwidth, more noise comes through the filter and causes the noise floor to rise. When you add an internal input attenuator, modern instruments respond by increasing IF gain to maintain a constant reference level. The increased gain causes the noise floor to rise by an amount equal to the added attenuation.

I'm receiving a mixer saturation warning on my MS2721B, what does it mean and what can I do about it?

The MS272xB, MS271xB and MT8222A have a broadband detector before the first mixer. If the overall signal environment contains enough signal power to cause the mixer to compress the output signal, the mixer is "saturated". The fix is to reduce the amplitude of signals hitting the mixer by one or more of three approaches. If the signal is in-band, or is the signal you want to measure, turn off the preamplifier as a first step. If that doesn't reduce the amplitude enough, start adding input attenuation until the problem is resolved. If the signal is out-of-band, those two methods will work but a better way may be to insert a bandpass filter into the signal path to reduce the amplitude of out-of-band signals since that will preserve in-band sensitivity.
