How do I calibrate my thru when my DUT has the same gender connector on the input and output?

Use the phase equal adapters provided in the calibration kit.  Refer to page 7-3 of your VNA operation manual for a detailed description on the use of phase equal adapters.

Can I change the Port Connectors on the 37000D?

Yes.  The universal test port connector on the Lightning allows the user to change the test port connectors to GPC-7, K, N, and 3.5mm for the 40GHz test sets and GPC-7, K, SSMA, and V for the 65GHz test sets.  A test port wrench, P/N 01-202, will be required.

Why does my Short/Open calibration standard not look like a short/open when I test it with a calibrated network analyzer?

All calibration standards have a length associated with them. This will appear as a phase offset when tested on a calibrated VNA. This additional phase length is accounted for on the calibration characterization file (cal disk).

How can I improve a noisy trace on my VNA?

Reduce the IF bandwidth and increase averaging.

Can I improve my autocal thru calibration?

Yes, by using a thru update.

Can I use my Scorpion calibration kit, 375x, on a Lightning?

While the Lightning will not read the cal file disk, it is possible to enter the calibration coeficients manually.  During the calibration process, the 37000D will prompt the user for a connector type.  If the user selects "User Defined," the 37000D will then allow the user to enter the calibration coefficients manually.  The user must make sure that the measurement frequency does not exceed the calibration kit frequency.

I have a 37247C. How do I set and read the output power of Port 1?

On the front panel of the 37247C select the Setup Menu soft key. This will take you to on screen menu SU1, Setup Sweep. From the Setup Sweep menu select the soft key for Test Signals. From the Test Signals menu you can use Power Control and Port 1 Attn to determine the Port 1 output power. Read the value of Port 1 power. Use the same process to determine the Port 2 output power.

How can my 37000D perform a calibration even though I have not loaded the calibration file from the enclosed disk?

The 37000D has default values loaded for the calibration kit. It is possible to perform a calibration without loading the cal file, but the calibration will not be as accurate, nor will it be traceable. For best results, the cal file should be loaded prior to running a calibration.

What is a Phase Equal Adapter?

Many calibration kits include adapters that are designed to have equal phase length. These parts are called phase equal adapters (PEA). Anritsu designs in-series adapters (e.g. K Connector M-M, M-F, F-F) to be phase insertable when technically possible. When available, it is good practice to use PEAs to establish test ports.

What is the difference between saving FRONT PANEL SETUP IN INTERNAL MEMORY and FRONT PANEL SETUP AND CAL DATA ON HARD DISK/FLOPPY DISK on Lightning and Scorpion?

FRONT PANEL SETUP IN INTERNAL MEMORY only stores the measurement parameters such as frequency and power level, it does not store the calibration.  FRONT PANEL SETUP AND CAL DATA ON HARD DISK/FLOPPY stores both the setup and the calibration.

Can I adjust the step attenuator once a calibration has been performed on my VNA?

No, on the Scorpion and Lightning VNAs adjusting the step attenuators will invalidate the calibration. Only the source power can be adjusted.

Can I use Agilent Vee with my 37000D?

Yes.  While there are currently no drivers written, it is still possible to control the 37000D with Agilent Vee using the GPIB commands.  Refer to the GPIB programming guide.

Can I use my Scorpion Autocal module with my Lightning?

No, the Scorpion Autocal is not compatable with the Lightning platform.

What is the Ext. Analog In on the rear panel connector in Lightning 37000D series VNA?

It is +/- 50 volt input for displaying external signals on the LCD, the connector is BNC female.

What are the different sweep types that the Signal source of Lightning series VNA supports?

It supports Linear, CW, Marker, or N-Discrete point sweeps.

What type of external trigger can be used in Lightning series VNA?

External TTL triggering for 37000D series VNA measurement. 10 K ohm input impedance, BNC female.

What is the System GPIB in the 37000D series Lightning VNA used for?

It is used to connect to an external controller for use in remote programming of the network analyzer. The address can be set from the front panel and can range from 1 to 30.

What is the fast CW operation in the 37000D series Lightning series VNA?

The Fast CW is an ideal mode of operation to attain rapid data over GPIB. To achieve a fast measurement rate, the display is not updated and only the raw S-parameter or user-defined parameter of the active channel is measured.

How do I restore my 37000D back to factory default?

In order to restore the 37000D to factory default simply push the "Default Program" button, then the "0" button. This will restore the system to factory default settings including clearing the calibration kit information. The Calibration Kit will need to be reloaded.

Can I use non-Anritsu Calibration Kits to calibrate my 37000D?

Yes, calibration coefficients for non-Anritsu calibration kits can be entered manually through the user defined connector type. During the calibration process, the 37000D will prompt the user for a connector type. If the user selects "User Defined," the 37000D will then allow the user to enter the calibration coefficients manually.
