I have a old SiteMaster S113 can I use code loader to load the most current software for that model?

Yes, you can use Handheld Code Loader to upgrade your software to the latest version applicable to your model.

My S113C will not allow me to set the F2 (upper) frequency to 2.4GHz.

The S113C and S114C site masters have an upper limit of 1.6GHz.

My captured traces on Handheld Software Tools do not look same as they are saved in Site Master. Scale has changed (vertical side).

Before capturing Trace, go to Settings on Handheld Software Tools then Default Plot Setting and then select Per Site Master under Plot Scaling.

When creating Custom Cable list using Handheld Software Tools to upload to a Site Master, what is the maximum number of cable types that can be stored in the Site Master (current platform and old platform)?

125 cables for current platform and 49 cables for old platform. Current platform: MT2812B/S331D/S332D with firmware version of V3.00 or higher. Any S810D/S820D, regardless of firmware version. Old Platform: All other models/firmware versions other than listed above.

My traces are saved in .MDB format on my PC. How do I convert these traces to .DAT files?

In HHST go to File>Database>Select the data base you want to open. This will open a window called Site Master Database showing pointing to your database. Display records 1 at a time or display all depending on the version of HHST you are using. Save each record as a .DAT trace file one at a time.

What is the Return Loss specification for 2000-767/2000-768 Open/Short/Load?

The return loss specification is 40dB up to 2.5GHz and 38dB up to 4GHz.

What USB to Serial Adapters will work with my Sitemaster?

All the Site Master, Cell Master and Spectrum Master Products (excluding MS2721A) include an RS-232 serial port. Most of the new lap top computers available in today's market do not feature an RS-232 serial port but feature a Universal Serial Bus (USB) port instead. To address this issue, a USB to Serial adapter can be used. It is important to note that the adapter can not be used to communicate with the Handheld Code Loader software and can only be used to communicate with the Anritsu Handheld Software Tools (Version 6.49 or above) to download and upload traces. Most of the USB to Serial adapters available today in the market will work, provided the computer uses an operating system that supports USB interfaces and that Handheld Software Tools (Version 6.49 or above) is used. The following USB to Serial adapters have been evaluated by Anritsu and have been confirmed to work properly: . HP (5184-2172) . Belkin (F5U103) . Xircom (PGSDB9) . Keyspan (USA-19QW) . Delorme (DEL00331) . Tripp Lite (U209-000-R) . Anritsu (551-1691) If an earlier version of Handheld Software Tools is being used, only the Anritsu supplied adapter will work.

Will a Polyphaser alter the return loss of an antenna sweep?

The frequency response and isolation of the Polyphaser should be better than the Antenna. The Polyphaser would be transparent to the antenna sweeps response.

I have saved my Site Master traces to a database. How do I view the files using HHST?

Using HHST (handheld software tools) select FILE -> Database. A window will pop up called "Select a Database" and from there you can either create a new database or open an existing one. Click on "Open a Database" and then click on "OK". In the window that pops up navigate to the location where the database is stored on your hard drive. Select it and then click "Open". You may get an error Number 5 and if so hit "OK" to ignore this error message. In the HHST screen you should see the "Site Master Database" window showing the traces saved in the database just opened. Note that you may need to click on the "Site Master Database" icon in the Windows Taskbar before the window is displayed.

I am trying to place my marker on a specific frequency, but the marker only allows me to go to a specified frequency (ie: I want to place it on 1950.3, but the marker jumps to 1949.xx or 1950.9x). Why does it do this?

Based on the resolution chosen, there are a discrete number of data points that are created in the graph. The markers can fall only on one of these discrete points in the graph. To find out how the points are spaced apart from F1: (F2-F1)/# of points.

Can I charge my Site Master battery and the spare battery at the same time?

Yes, by using the optional Battery Charger (2000-1029). The charger has two slots which can be populated with the Site Master battery (removed from the instrument) and the spare battery. The batteries will be charged sequentially. The battery charging procedure is outlined in the User's Guide.

Does Handheld Software Tools work with Microsoft Vista?

Yes, Handheld Software Tools 6.58 or later is compatible with Microsoft Vista. Also the driver for the USB to serial adapter cable from Tripp Lite should also be updated if necessary to work with Microsoft Vista. Why doesn't my USB to Serial adapter work?

The Sitemaster and the Handheld Software Tools program (HHST) will work with almost any commercially available USB to Serial adapter. If you don't have one yet, you can order one from us (P/N 551-1691) or pick one up from almost any electronics parts store (Fry's, Radio Shack, etc). You have to install the drivers that come with the device, and then you may have to go into control panel on your PC and manually set the Com port to Com 1 through Com 5, as these are the only ports the program will recognize. In Windows XP, you can do this by going to Control Panel, System, Hardware, Device Manager, Ports, Communications Port, Port Settings, Advanced, then click on the Com port pull-down; and it will show you which Com ports are in use on your machine. Set it to an unused port number 1 through 5, and everything should work. If not, please give us a call at 1-800-Anritsu.

I'm trying to install the Handheld Code Loader (HHCL) program on an older PC running Windows 2000 or Windows ME. During installation the setup program informs me that my system files are out of date and asks if I want to update them. I choose yes and the program acts like it has upgraded them and asks me to reboot. After I reboot, I get the same messages as if the files were not upgraded.

After the program is downloaded and unzipped, there should be three files present: 1. Setup.exe 2. CodeLoader_vX.XX.CAB 3. SETUP.LST Please open SETUP.LST using Notepad. You will see a structure like this in the second paragraph. How accurately do I need to know the propagation velocity and cable loss of my particular cable?

That depends! How well do you want to know the distance and loss of your system elements? The propagation velocity affects the distance that reflections are reported on the Site Master. Cable manufacturers often spec their prop v +/- 10%. So, the antenna at the end of your cable will have a +/- 10% error in distance. You can minimize this problem by sweeping known lengths of cable in DTF mode. You can 'dial in' the propagation velocity until the reflection at the end reads properly on the Site Master. The cable loss given by the manufacturers, however, is usually quite accurate. Using their published specification is sufficient. The Site Master cable tables offer both propagation velocity and loss values for many standard cables used in cell installations today.

When performing a line sweep the unit blinks "DX" where the "Hold" is displayed.

There is not a a DX symbol, what you may bear seeing is the error message for Integrator Failure. It kind of looks like a "DX". If this is really what is happening then your Site Master may have been damaged by excessive RF or ESD being applied to the test port (most common cause). There could be other causes for this type of failure too. You should contact our Customer Service Department for more help.

What causes my Site Master to beep?

If a flashing LOW BATT indicator is accompanied by an audio beep at the end of each trace, the battery has approximately one minute of useable time remaining.

There is a lot of concern about loss and reflections in the cable run to the antenna. Why don't the radio MFGs just make transmitters with more power?

The FCC regulates how much output power of any given transmitter. Since this is a fixed quantity, the system designers are forced to squeeze out every bit of performance out of the entire system.
