Anritsu Base Station Simulator Now Supports Tests of LTE-based Next-generation eCall

Allen, TX – June 27, 2019 – Anritsu Company introduces an extended eCall test solution consisting of its Signalling Tester MD8475A/B base station simulator and the eCall Tester MX703330E software. The solution supports verification of the next-generation emergency call system (NG-eCall).

eCall is a pan-European emergency call system for sending road accident information to a public safety answering point (PSAP). Early intervention of emergency services is expected to save lives and alleviate severe injuries. The European Union (EU) mandated fitting of 112-based eCall in-vehicle systems (IVS) to all new M1- and N1-category vehicles effective March 31, 2018.

Anritsu has added the NG112 LTE eCall option to its accurate and comprehensive eCall Tester MX703330E GMS-based eCall test solution to implement RFC8147-defined NG-eCall function tests and end-to-end voice evaluation. Anritsu also offers world-first test solutions to validate Telematics Control Unit (TCU) with eCall functions by supporting 1-Gbit LTE simulation and NG-eCall tests using one MD8475B unit. It provides optimum coverage for general telematics tests while helping reduce test costs.

Current eCall deployments are based on ETSI and CEN standards using an in-band modem to transport eCall data (MSD) over circuit-switched (CS) GSM and UMTS networks. However, EU operators plan to phase-out support for GSM and UMTS and shift to all-IP infrastructures, such as LTE and 5G, in the next 10 years. eCall support for IP networks has many advantages, including better stability and reliability, so NG112 eCall is expected to be deployed in the near term.

The Signalling Tester MD8475A/B is an all-in-one base station simulator supporting LTE, LTE-Advanced, W-CDMA/HSPA/HSPA Evolution/DC-HSDPA, GSM/GPRS/EGPRS, CDMA2000 1X/1xEV-DO Rev. A and TD-SCDMA/TD-HSPA. It supports service, VoLTE and call-processing tests for multimode LTE smartphones and mobiles with excellent cost-performance. In addition, 1-Gbps IP performance evaluation tests are made easy by the built-in traffic generator with all-in-one support for LTE-Advanced 3CA/4CA technologies. In addition to eCall, the MD8475A/B can support ERA-GLONASS system tests of MSD data communications using SMS.
