HSUPA Test Instrument Introduced by Anritsu Company

Expanded Test Capability of MD8480C Designed to Improve Development Cycle of HSUPA Chipsets and Expedite Roll Out of Technology

Anritsu Company continues to lead the way in 3G test solutions with the introduction of HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) testing capability for its MD8480C signaling tester, the market's leading 3G base station simulator. The HSUPA testing capability is the ideal signaling extension of the MD8480C, the industry's first HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) signaling tester and the only one that meets the full HSDPA specifications. It creates a single solution that allows chipset developers to verify the performance of their HSUPA chips faster and more efficiently, improving the overall time to market for HSUPA technology.

With the new capability, the MD8480C provides a single platform to test user equipment (UE) accurately and quickly in accordance with Release99 through R5 and R6. It fully supports all six categories defined in Release 6 and can thus test up to the 5.74 Mbps theoretical maximum HSUPA reverse link throughput. The MD8480C also supports HARQ (Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request) for testing data throughput or Tx diversity in handover testing.

Users can also add GSM/GPRS testing functionality and use the MD8480C as an InterRAT testing solution as well as a HSUPA/HSDPA/W-CDMA base station simulator. The MD8480C has measurement functions for the Enhanced Uplink (EUL) physical channels, Layer 1 and 2 signaling, and MAC-E/S entities to enable developers to analyze the full performance of EUL-enabled devices.

The HSUPA testing capability is a natural progression of the MD8480C. The signaling tester has unique high internal processing speed so it has full testing capability up to 14.4 Mbps • as much as 30x more than other signaling testers. It achieves a fast 200 ms response on the Radio Link Control (RLC) layer, creating a stable connection for improved transmission during conformance tests, and greatly reducing the occurrences of re-transmission requests that are common with other instruments.

Combining physical layer testing with call processing analysis functions, the MD8480C can simulate GSM/GPRS/W-CDMA and HSDPA base stations (BTS). The MD8480C also allows OCNS (Orthogonal Channel Noise Simulation) to be loaded for each BTS. This meets the 3GPP test requirements for interference and noise tests, and reduces the time required to conduct verification tests. Additionally, the MD8480C has a measuring function for monitoring throughput and block error rate (BLER), so the tester can efficiently conduct debugging tasks.
