Anritsu Corporation (President Hirokazu Hashimoto) announced that it is upgrading the functions of its popular MT8820C Radio Communication Analyzer by starting sales from September 10 of its latest MX882000C-032 DC-HSDPA Measurement Software for measuring the Rx throughput*1 of DC-HSDPA*2 mobile terminals and data cards*3.

With a full line of built-in dedicated hardware and software for simulating base station operations and evaluating mobile terminal QoS, the MT8820C is Anritsu’s popular measurement platform supporting R&D and production of mobile terminals using different communications technologies.

Installing the MX882000C-032 software in the MT8820C with W-CDMA/HSPA Evolution measurement hardware and software as well as the unique ParallelPhone® function, supports Rx throughput measurement of mobile phones and data cards using DC-HSDPA 42-Mbps*4 download signals (from base station to mobile) as well as RF*5 Rx tests.

DC-HSDPA is a mobile communications technology offering faster speeds than HSPA Evolution; commercial services are expected to rollout in Japan during the latter half of 2010, emphasizing the need for mobile phone and data card Rx test.

By supporting DC-HSDPA Rx throughput measurements and RF Rx tests with the MT8820C, Anritsu is hoping to promote the smooth commercial start of this next-generation mobile service.

[Development Background]

DC-HSDPA is a 3.5G mobile communications technology supporting faster speeds than HSPA Evolution. The late 2010 start of commercial services in Japan will accelerate the trend towards mass production of DC-HSDPA mobile phones and data cards.

With a maximum downlink speed of 42 Mbps, Rx throughput measurements and RF Rx performance tests are key items in the final shipping inspection tests of DC-HSDPA mobile phones and data cards. To meet this need, Anritsu developed the MX882000C-032 software to upgrade the functions of its popular MT8820C Radio Communication Analyzer used for R&D and manufacturing of mobile terminals worldwide.

[Product Outline]

The MT8820C Radio Communication Analyzer platform is targeted at R&D and production-line testing of mobile terminals ranging from 3.9G LTE to 3.5, 3, and 2G. It operates as a quasi-base station using a combination of measurement hardware and software supporting all world major mobile technologies. It is the perfect solution for evaluating the quality of mobile services using the call processing status (communications status between base station and mobile).

The MX882000C-032 software is installed in the newly developed MT8820C to support the Rx function tests recommended by the DC-HSDPA standard. Installing it in the MT8820C with W-CDMA/HSPA Evolution measurement hardware and software plus the Anritsu ParallelPhone® function supports Rx throughput measurements and RF RX performance tests of DC-HSDPA mobile phones and data cards.

Adding the GSM measurement hardware and software options to the MT8820C with the DC-HSDPA measurement configuration assures easy all-in-one measurement of dual-mode DC-HSDPA/GSM mobile terminals.

The MT8820C is fully compatible with the MT8820B/MT8815B, assuring that previous investment in test jigs and software is not wasted. The MT8820C can be swapped easily into production lines using the MT8820B/MT8815B without need for retooling time and expense.
