Anritsu to Demonstrate MP1800A 64 Gbaud PAM4 BER Test Solution at ECOC 2016

Global Test Leader to Showcase Solution that Addresses Development of Technologies to Meet Explosive Increase in Data Traffic

Richardson, TX – September 19, 2016 – Anritsu Corporation President Hirokazu Hashimoto announces that the company is exhibiting its Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A series 64 Gbaud PAM4 BER test solution in its booth at ECOC 2016, September 19-21, 2016 in Düsseldorf, Germany. The exhibit will include the G0374A 64 Gbaud PAM4 DAC supporting 53.125-Gbaud PAM4 transmissions defined by the next-generation 400 GbE standard, as well as generation of high-quality PAM4 signals at up to 64 Gbaud. Additionally, 400 GbE 53.125-Gbaud BER measurements are supported as a BER measurement set with high input sensitivity.

The demonstration will highlight how Anritsu is providing a test solution to address the explosive increase in data traffic driving investigation into communication speed increases between servers and network equipment. The next-generation 400 GbE Ethernet standard uses the PAM modulation method to increase data transfers per unit time by increasing the symbol rate and adding more lanes. PAM4 signals have an advantage over NRZ signaling in doubling the amount of transferred data per unit time, but suffer from the disadvantage of requiring solutions to address technical issues such as lowering the power consumption and improving the S/N ratio. These tests require high-quality signal sources and high-input-sensitivity measurements.

Anritsu’s Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A series supports evaluation of devices and optical modules meeting the latest communications standards, in part, because it outputs high-quality data signals with low jitter of 300 fs (rms) and high input sensitivity performance of 25 mV. The MP1800A series Multichannel Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) and Error Detector (ED) can be easily expanded using the G0374A 64 Gbaud PAM4 DAC and MP1862A 56G/64 Gbit/s DEMUX to support high-baud-rate the NRZ and PAM4 methods, as well as BER measurements.

The Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A is a plug-in module type Bit Error Rate Tester (BERT) that can generate up to 8 channels of synchronized signals using the 32G Multichannel PPG module. The exhibited G0374A is an accessory part for the MP1800A series that is used in combination with the MU183020A 32 Gbit/s Multichannel PPG to generate 64-Gbaud NRZ/PAM4 signals by simple conversion of half-rate 32-Gbit/s NRZ signals. Additionally, combination with the MP1862A 56G/64G Gbit/s DEMUX and MU183040B 28G/32G Gbit/s High Sensitivity ED supports BER measurement of high-baud-rate PAM4 signals.

The Signal Quality Analyzer MP1800A is well suited for R&D of high-speed electrical devices, optical devices, and optical transceiver modules developed for high-end servers, communications equipment, and optical transceivers.
