Anritsu Commercializes Fading Capability for MD8475A Signaling Tester

5/9/2012
Integration of MD8475A and MF6900A Enables Fading of One or Two LTE Base Stations

Anritsu Company (CTIA booth #3551) introduces a Fading I/O Interface for its MD8475A that connects the Signaling Tester to Anritsu’s MF6900A Baseband Fading Simulator. With the option, the MD8475A now has LTE fading capabilities, including multipath fading, delay profiles, and multi-antenna channel models to support up to 2x2 MIMO.

“We are pleased to add fading simulation to the extensive functional test capabilities of the MD8475A,” said Wade Hulon, Vice President and General Manager of Anritsu Company. “We know that testing devices under real-world conditions in a lab is easier than using test networks or live networks, so we are enabling the industry to conduct required tests in a more time- and cost-efficient manner with this new capability.”

The MD8475A Signaling Tester is a compact, Windows 7-based tester capable of emulating two base stations, with formats including LTE, W-CDMA, GSM/(E)-GPRS, and CDMA2000. End-to-end testing is supported, with the capability to install servers inside the MD8475A or to connect external servers. Anritsu’s SmartStudio GUI provides easy graphical control of the MD8475A, and the internal state machine emulates real network operation without the need for scripts. Optional VoLTE test capability has recently been added to the instrument, with an internal CSCF server capable of authenticating and establishing loopback VoLTE calls, as well as providing the capability to select various server responses, including ignore and reject.

With the new option, engineers can integrate the MD8475A with the MF6900A to run fading simulation tests as required by 3GPP LTE standards, including SISO and 2x2 MIMO configurations. The MF6900A uses full digital baseband processing to assure fading with high reproducibility at the same settings, while greatly simplifying difficult MIMO power control and achieving high accuracy.
