MT9090A Network MasterTM™ µOTDR Provides Traditional OTDR Performance in Compact Handheld Form Factor

October 26, 2010

Anritsu Company introduces the MT9090A Network Master™ Micro-OTDR, a revolutionary tool for the installation and maintenance of today’s optical networks. With performance that rivals traditional OTDRs that are four times its size and more than twice its price, the MT9090A Network Master µOTDR provides the high performance, ease of use, and portability required by field personnel responsible for the installation and maintenance of optical fibers.

The MT9090A Network Master features 5 cm resolution for accurate mapping of events. With less than 1 meter (3 feet) dead zones, the µOTDR can conduct fast and accurate evaluations of central offices, FTTx cables, and intra-building cables.

In addition to traditional premise/access applications, the µOTDR expands the areas in which handheld OTDRs can be used. Featuring dynamic range of 37 dB, the MT9090A Network Master can provide great detail and high resolution when measuring metro links, as well as conduct complete evaluation of long haul fibers up to 175 km (108 miles). The overall capability of the MT9090A Network Master makes it a single instrument solution for evaluating fibers in any network, including premise, access, metro, core, as well as PON-based FTTx networks featuring up to a 1x64 split.

Ease-of-Use
The µOTDR’s Full AUTO mode simplifies operation for users and ensures proper set-up. It also features an integrated launch fiber that provides accurate initial connector measurements without the need to connect external calibration devices.

Compact and Field-Focused Design
The MT9090A µOTDR can easily fit in the palm of a user’s hand, measuring 19 cm x 9.6 cm x 4.8 cm (7.5” x 3.8” x 1.9”) and weighing only 700 g (<1.54 lbs.). With its lightweight design and user friendly size, the MT9090A is the smallest and lightest OTDR on the market and perfect for the outside plant environment, as it can easily be operated with one hand.

Two battery options are available – either long-lasting NiMH batteries or Alkaline batteries in case recharging is not an option. The MT9090A also features a 4.3” wide, high resolution, full color screen for viewing OTDR results in both indoor and outdoor settings.
