MD1260A Can Test 40/100 GbE, OTU3 and OTU4 Technologies Used in Cloud Computing Applications

Anritsu Company introduces the MD1260A 40/100G Ethernet Analyzer, a single instrument capable of performing highly accurate evaluations on high-speed transmission technologies, such as 40/100 GbE, OTU3, and OTU4, used in the next generation of cloud computing applications. A flexible platform allows for a cost-effective instrument that can be used in metro/core transmission equipment manufacturing, carrier network installation, data centers, as well as in the manufacturing of optical devices.

Compact in design and weighing no more than 8 kg (15 lb), the MD1260A features built-in signal generation and analysis functions that can support a full range of Ethernet measurements, including 40/100G signal throughput, frame loss, BER, and skew margin. The analyzer can generate 40 and 100 Gbps Ethernet signals to evaluate transmission equipment and networks, as well as a full range of versatile analysis functions for troubleshooting transmitted signals.

Its flexible design allows users to easily expand the measurement capability of the MD1260A, depending on testing requirements. Additionally, up to 16 analyzers can be connected in a master/slave configuration for evaluating multiport switches and routers, as well as to batch test multiple pieces of transmission equipment. A Unit Synch function can synchronize the test frame time stamp issued to each instrument, as well as the timing, so the MD1260A can be used as a high background load generator to overload the networks in a multi-unit environment.

An auto control function makes it easy to configure an automated test system that supports every required 40/100G Ethernet test, including over-specification tolerance tests, multi-unit delay measurements and CFP stand-alone tests. This makes the MD1260A well suited for manufacturing environments.

Operation is easy, due to a large, 12.1-inch touch panel and intuitive GUI. A rugged solid-state flash drive eliminates the possibility of drive crashes that result in the loss of valuable test data.

Designed for a Variety of Applications
The measurement capability and compact size of the MD1260A allow it to be used to inspect 40/100G equipment and devices during manufacturing, as well as during the commissioning of 40/100G networks. It supports the unique function of 40/100 GbE skew adjustment evaluation between lanes, in addition to basic Ethernet measurements such as throughput, frame loss, BER, and statistics.

OTU3 and OTU4 signals can also be generated by the MD1260A, so users can conduct basic OTN measurements, including errors/alarms and BER. MLD monitoring for all lanes or per lane, as well as an OH monitor function are supported as well.

For commissioning 40/100G networks, the MD1260A supports simple 40/100 GbE, OTU3 and OTU4 network tests to verify connections. It also features powerful troubleshooting functions so that network faults can be quickly located and repaired.
