AMS-IX installs two new 100 Gigabit Ethernet analyzers from Anritsu to support rapidly growing traffic volumes

Advanced network analyzers provide complete protocol test coverage for architecture based on the latest ultra-high data-rate routers and switches

Luton, UK – XX February 2011 – Communications test equipment manufacturer Anritsu has announced the installation by Amsterdam Internet Exchange (AMS-IX) of two MD1260A IP/Ethernet analyzers, which support the latest IEEE standards for 40 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and 100GbE networks.

Investment in the latest high-performance test technology from Anritsu is part of a strategy by AMS-IX – which is the world’s largest internet exchange by traffic volume – to design its network infrastructure for fast-growing volumes of IP data throughput.

To achieve this, AMS-IX is replacing an existing network configuration based on multiple aggregated 10GbE links with an architecture using 100GbE-standard routers and switches. This architecture reduces network complexity, improves performance and eases network management operations.

The requirement for test equipment that supports this new 100GbE architecture has led AMS-IX to install the MD1260A, which is an advanced network analyzer optimized for 40/100GbE networks. Providing complete coverage of testing requirements for next-generation IP networks, the MD1260A offers 40/100GbE tolerance tests which exceed the IEEE/ITU-T standards.

The Chief Technical Officer of AMS-IX, Henk Steenman said: ‘Many Internet service providers and millions of Internet users rely on AMS-IX for efficient routing of network traffic, so the integrity and performance of our network infrastructure is of the utmost importance.
