Anritsu Corporation (President Hirokazu Hashimoto) has obtained world-first GCF*1 approval for better than 80% of test cases for the 3 downlink carrier aggregation (3DL CA)*2 RF Conformance Test*3 for the company’s LTE-Advanced*4 RF Conformance Test System ME7873LA.
These GCF approvals obtained by the ME7873LA are for 3DL CA frequencies used in Japan, North America, and Europe. With these approvals, the ME7873LA is now world leader for number of approved RF and RRM test cases. In particular, the Anritsu RRM test system for 3DL CA has the best industry record of more than 80% of test cases.
Carrier Aggregation technology increases communication speeds by aggregating several frequency bands and is standardized by 3GPP Release 10*5. Mobile operators worldwide are starting deployment of 2DL CA services by aggregating 2 downlink signals, with future plans to start 3DL CA in mid-2016, starting in N. America, S. Korea, and Japan.
Commercially released LTE-Advanced mobile terminals must be certified first by GCF and PTCRB*6. As a condition for starting terminal certification, GCF requires an approval rate of at least 80% for test cases used for LTE-Advanced mobile Carrier Aggregation standards compliance tests.
Anritsu obtained world-first PTCRB 3DL CA certification for its LTE-Advanced RF Conformance Test System ME7873LA in September 2015, followed by GCF approval for more than 80% of test cases for 3DL CA conformance tests in April 2016. As a result, operators can now start commercial deployment of 3DL CA services in the near future.

LTE-Advanced RF Conformance Test System ME7873LA
The ME7873LA is a test platform for verifying conformance of specifications, such as RF TRx characteristics, performance, etc., with 3GPP standards.
It is used for acceptance inspection tests by carriers worldwide, especially in North America and northeast Asia.

Standards organization for defining verification test standards for network operations and mobile terminals to ensure global interoperability of mobiles. GCF-approved measurement systems and measurement items guarantee that the test performance (measurement procedure and accuracy) meets the requirements for mobile terminal verification systems.
*2 3 Downlink Carrier Aggregation (3DL CA)
Carrier Aggregation technology creates a virtual wide bandwidth by aggregating several frequency bands; wireless communications systems can transfer more data at faster speeds as the frequency band becomes wider. 3DL CA aggregates three frequency bands.

Test for confirming mobile unit TRx characteristics, performance, etc., in compliance with 3GPP standards.
Higher-speed standard for mobile communications systems evolved from earlier LTE (Long Term Evolution) standard and offering faster download speeds of at least 4000 Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1500 Mbps.
