Anritsu and Sumitomo Electric to Demonstrate 100GbE Technology at OFC

MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer from Anritsu and 4-Lane Optical Sub-Assembly from SEI Part of 100GbE Technology Showcase

Anritsu Company, a global leader in optical test solutions, and Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. (SEI)/ExceLight Communications Inc. (ExceLight), a leading global provider of optical components and modules, will be conducting a joint 100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) technology demonstration in Anritsu's booth-#1745-during OFC/NFOEC 2009. The demonstration will showcase Anritsu's MP1800A Signal Quality Analyzer and SEI's 100GbE 4-lane optical sub-assembly (OSA), the first optical 100GbE interface that meets the IEEE 802.3ba standard.

"IEEE has been working on creating a standard for high-speed Ethernet in order to meet the tremendous demand for high bandwidth networks. SEI has been developing 100GbE products in accordance with IEEE's direction to provide ultra high-speed and large-capacity capability," said Terry Fujitani, Department Head of Lightwave Technologies Department, Optical Transmission Components Division, SEI. "At OFC, we will be demonstrating the result of our development-the first 100GbE optical interface that meets IEEE802.3ba."The demonstration will feature SEI's OSA, which has a transmitter consisting of four wavelengths Electroabsorption Modulator Laser Diode of 25 Gpbs each, with a wavelength interval of nearly 4.5 nm. The OSA also has a 100 GbE receiver that uses a photodiode (PIN) with a transimpedance amplifier (TIA) that converts the optical signal to an electrical signal.

Two MP1800A analyzers will be part of the demonstration as well. One analyzer will input 100G signals into the SEI OSA while the other MP1800A will conduct jitter tests on the device to measure its high performance. Anritsu's MG3693B signal generator and MS9710C optical spectrum analyzer will be part of the demonstration as well.

The MP1800A is the optimum test solution for 100GbE devices such as optical sub-assemblies. It produces an extremely high quality waveform and has a high-performance receiver with a wide phase margin of >288 degrees and typical input sensitivity of 50 MVp-p. Providing a Pulse Pattern Generator (PPG) and Error Detector (ED) in a single chassis, the MP1800A allows for multi-channel support for parallel testing. It is ideal for research and development of 100GbE optical modulators, high-speed logic, ICs, digital systems, and PON devices.
