Development and installation of network equipment and network systems requires measuring network performance and evaluating QoS.  In addition, network operations and maintenance requires monitoring in-service traffic, latency, and frame arrival time variation (frame-jitter) with prompt troubleshooting.  The MD1231A1 addresses all these needs uniquely by providing wire-speed performance testing, network monitoring, and full protcol capabilities up to 10 Gbps in one lightweight portable instrument.

The MD1231A1 provides most of the same well regarded Ethernet and IP performance testing and measurement capabilities of Anritsu's MD1230B, yet its light weight (13 lb) and built-in pointing device meet the most stringent field portability requirements of service providers and enterprise network managers.

The MD1231A1's two interface slots accept MD1230B Ethernet interface modules and offer the same unique Ethernet in-service (pass-through) mode monitoring capability. MD1231A1 also supports MD1230B PoS modules up to 10G. Its built-in GPS receiver option provides end-to-end network latency measurements with 1 usec. resolution for crucial voice and video over IP applications. The Decode Module and Expert Analysis Module options Powered by Sniffer Technologies provide exceptional troubleshooting and protocol decode abilities whose benefits the networking industry has long acknowledged for providing faster network problem solving. The MT7407A Multislot Chassis supports the same interface modules as the MD1231A1 and MD1230B in a 14 slot rackmount enclosure.

The MD1231A is a slightly less expesnive version of the MD1231A1 that does not support 10 GbE or 2.5G/10G PoS modules.
