A timely opportunity for America
Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, $7.2 billion was made available to expand broadband access to unserved and underserved communities across the United States. The initiative is coordinated by the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and The Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA).

Our MD8430A is an all-in-one LTE-Advanced signaling tester. When combined with the MF6900A fading simulator, the MD8430A provides a reproducible fading environment that is essential for evaluating LTE-Advanced User Equipment (UE) radio signaling. It evolves with technological advancements, supporting new technologies such as eMBMS and carrier aggregation with 4x2 MIMO. With the Rapid Test Designer (RTD) integrated test environment it offers the fastest way to create and run tests for the latest technologies.

Our MD8475A signaling tester is a compact, multi-technology network simulator in a box. MD8475 provides the intuitive SmartStudio GUI to set up test environments and perform functional tests. With SmartStudio Manager software, the MD8475A can be used to easily create, execute, and automate customized test cases. MD8475A supports multiple application tests such as VoLTE IMS, ePDG/Wi-Fi offload, battery life testing, and CMAS.

Our high-performance MS2690A/91A/92A signal analyzer provides complete LTE uplink and downlink analysis in a one-box platform that includes signal analysis and signal generation.

With LTE networks deployed all over the world, migrating traditional voice services to LTE becomes ever more pressing. GSMA IR.92 – IMS Profile for Voice and SMS – clears the way for a global solution but also introduces functional, performance, and quality challenges. Meeting those challenges and ensuring Voice over LTE’s (VoLTE) commercial success will require comprehensive testing of VoLTE-enabled mobile devices.

Carrier Aggregation

As consumers demand even higher data rates to feed data-hungry services and applications, Carrier Aggregation (CA) has emerged as the key enabling technology, allowing carriers to knit together disparate spectrum holdings to meet consumer demands.

Initial CA deployments combine two component carriers in the downlink. Devices able to support three downlink carriers, enabling up to 450Mbps downlink, are in development now.

TDD/FDD Access

LTE standards support the use of both Time Domain Duplex (TDD) and Frequency Domain Duplex (FDD) from the same set of standards and with the same air interface characteristics.


Multiple Input Multiple Out (MIMO) is an antenna technology that, together with signal processing, can increase either capacity (spatial multiplexing) or signal-to-noise ratio (transmit diversity) in a radio link.

In LTE using 2x2 / 4x2 MIMO with spatial multiplexing, the user data is separated into two data sets, each fed to two / four transmit antennas and received by two receive antennas. Because of multi-path, each data set travels a distinct RF path with different propagation characteristics. The algorithm used to split and recombine the data allows the system to make use of the independence of these two paths in order to improve throughput. The two data streams occupy the same RF channel at the same time. This doubles the data rate possible on the air interface link.

When using MIMO with transmit diversity, the same user data is transmitted from both antennas, and at each receiver replicas of the signal are processed. This duplication enhances signal-to-noise ratio and improves signal robustness.

Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) is an air interface found in UMTS mobile telecommunications networks in China. It is a Time Division Duplex (TDD) 3G technology as opposed to Frequency Division Duplex (FDD) like W-CDMA. TD-SCDMA is primarily used for voice and it utilizes a TDD version of HSPA for data. China Mobile is the operator in China utilizing this technology making it the largest 3G network operator in the world.
