Broadband Stimulus

A timely opportunity for America
Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, $7.2 billion was made available to expand broadband access to unserved and underserved communities across the United States. The initiative is coordinated by the Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and The Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications Information Administration (NTIA).

Anritsu is proud to contribute to Broadband Stimulus with test and measurement instruments that make it easier and faster to deliver the promise of universal high-speed connectivity. Our equipment has been proven at most major carriers and communications industry suppliers in demanding field applications around the globe.

We hope you will bookmark this section of our website and come back regularly. You’ll find constantly updated news and articles of interest, basic reference material on Broadband Stimulus, and links to appropriate Anritsu product information.
MT9090A
Network Master

Purpose-Built for Technicians
Until now, the right tool just didn't exist for technicians to quickly and cost-effectively isolate network problems. Traditional, dedicated testers did the job but lacked the ability to be upgraded when new technologies were deployed. Likewise, more flexible platforms were too large, too expensive and too complicated.

The new, palm-size MT9090A modular platform from Anritsu finally addresses all of these needs. Users can interchange different modules to configure the MT9090A as an optical fault locator, general purpose OTDR, CWDM optical channel analyzer or 10/100/1000MB Ethernet tester. Operation is quite similar between modules so the user is immediately familiar with operation.

Small but Capable
Despite its small size, the MT9090A does not compromise performance or features. With a high resolution indoor/outdoor display, excellent optical performance, innovative features and expandable modular design, the MT9090A Network Master is clearly in a different class than most other "handheld testers".

MT9083C
ACCESS Master

Until now, installing and maintaining optical networks required technicians to carry a variety of equipment which was not only cumbersome, but also expensive. Hearing this common complaint, Anritsu engineers have developed their new line of MT9083 ACCESS Master OTDRs. The MT9083C test sets are designed to make your measurement experience simple and error-free with true one-button fault location, pass/fail classification, automated file saving and naming and even a macrobend detection feature for identifying installation issues.  They feature multiple wavelengths and options to satisfy any network testing requirement: access or metro, FTTx or LAN...all without straining your budget.

For customers installing and maintaining metro area or core networks, the ACCESS Master offers an automated fiber construction application and multiple wavelengths including specialty applications such as 1383 nm for certifying legacy fibers for CWDM upgrades.

For FTTx networks, the MT9083 series provides both optical testing for optical splits up to a 1x128, plus quality of service (QoS) verification via the IP testing option. With the IP option, continuity, download speed, throughput and frame loss of Gigabit Ethernet links can be verified up to full line rate. It also features a unique way to troubleshoot live PON based, FTTx networks without additional costly and complicated external filters.

Additional features include an integrated light source and power meter plus options to customize the unit including higher range power meters, visual fault locator (VFL) and connector inspection microscope to ensure complete network evaluation with a single tool.

CMA5000a
Multi-Layer Network Test and Measurement Platform

From Physical Plant Integrity to Bandwidth Verification, Amplifier Tuning to Transport Optimization, the CMA5000a is the Only Tool You Will Need!

From fiber installation to service deployment, the CMA5000a is designed to maximize network performance and accelerate the deployment of new services. Critical network parameters and performance can be monitored and network impairments quickly identified to accelerate the deployment of new services. Results can then be easily documented by the powerful Windows based platform simplifying and reducing the non-revenue generating activities associated with operating an optical network. A modular design with different size bay adapters allows you to customize your test set as needed adding further value.

As the leader in optical fiber and network characterization, the CMA5000a offers all the test applications required for comprehensive physical layer characterization, including: OTDR, Chromatic Dispersion, Polarization Mode Dispersion, Loss Test Set, and Optical Return Loss. Supplemental tools such as a Visual Fault Locator and Video Inspection Probe are also available for a complete testing solution.  Once the fiber is certified, equipment turn-up, optimization and troubleshooting of the transport layers can be performed for key technologies including: SONET/SDH/PDH, OTN and Ethernet - ensuring your network is performing as it should.

CMA50
Optical Loss Test Set / Optical Power Meter

Fast and easy-to-use, Anritsu's CMA50 Loss Test Sets are designed for both attenuation and power throughput measurements on fiber optic links. Units are offered with commonly calibrated wavelengths and connector options to meet any testing requirement from FTTx networks to long haul telephony links to multimode LAN, and CATV.
CMA5
Optical Light Source / Optical Power Meter

Light Source: The CMA5 Series Light Sources provide an economical and stable laser source for use in point-to-point attenuation measurement. They feature a rugged design, built to withstand the difficult testing environment of fiber optic cable installation and maintenance.

The CMA5 Light Sources are ideal for testing single-mode and multimode fibers as they are offered in a variety of wavelengths to meet testing applications from datacom with 850 and 1300nm to WDM with 1310/1550 nm wavelength.

Weighing in at less than 7 pounds, it is equally at home on the engineering bench and in the field.

Demodulated signals can be monitored using the internal speaker or by using a universal 2.5 mm 3-wire headset, such as used with many cellular telephones.

Bringing broadband to rural America

The “Broadband Stimulus” initiative creates jobs, improves infrastructure and helps the American economy by bringing high-speed communications to underserved rural areas.

Networks must be built out quickly and cost-effectively. Fiber, coax or other connectivity must be deployed to the access level in remote areas where service could not be provided economically in the past. The “last mile” may lie across fields or up mountain slopes to serve a handful of users, with wireless being the only practical choice.

Continuous testing and measurement of links and equipment is an essential part of the process. The above chart shows where Anritsu instruments are at work.

This chart shows our technology in use at the Metro level of the broadband network.
