Court Settlement of Pump Laser Diode Module Patent Infringement Lawsuit Alleged by Furukawa Electric

On June 30, 2005, Anritsu Corporation and its subsidiary Anritsu Devices Co., Ltd. (collectively, "Anritsu") and The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd. ("Furukawa Electric") settled a pump laser diode module patent infringement lawsuit dispute, in accordance with a recommendation for settlement by the Tokyo District Court. Although pursuant to the conditions the settlement details is confidential, it is definite Anritsu's customers are able to continue purchasing and using Anritsu's highly reliable, high power pump laser diode modules.

Background

On December 24, 2003, Furukawa Electric filed a suit in the Tokyo District Court (No. 29331 at the Tokyo District Court in 2003) alleging that 1480nm pump laser diode modules for excitation source manufactured by Anritsu infringed a patent owned by Furukawa Electric (JP 2898643). For the past year and a half, Anritsu has consistently argued that the patent is invalid, and denied liability of Anritsu's products for patent infringement in the court. Both parties reached agreement on accepting a recommendation by the Tokyo District Court to settle the dispute.
